Complete the worksheet according to the following specifications for each column:

Standard: Enter the exact verbiage of the standard for that strand or domain.

Explanation: Explain in your own words what that standard means at that grade level.

Teaching Example: Provide an example of how you might teach that standard to students at that grade level using a manipulative. (Do not use an example of a math problem that fits with in the standard.)

Teaching Example

1st grade

MGSE1.OA.1 Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.

The students will learn how to add and subtract through word problems using models to illustrate.

Use snap cubes to demonstrate with the students how to add to or take apart numbers. Have students write the numeric representation of each problem so they can see the relationship between models and algorithms.

3rd grade

5th grade

7th grade

Write a 260- to 350-word analysis of how the standard you chose evolves and builds as the grade levels progress.
