Why do you believe that employees have minimal trust in a pay for performance program? How can HR help the organization resolve this challenge?

Q2

Title: Ergogenic Aid

This discussion will be on ergogenic aids. As an introduction, go to the following website and read the story: 2 energy drinks tell a murky tale of supplement regulation.

Now go to this website and learn about ergogenic aids.

If you have trouble accessing this website, a PDF version is attached to this discussion.

From the list below, select one ergogenic aid. The list below was developed from Table 3 in the article above. Not every ergogenic aid in Table 3 is listed below. You must pick one of the ergogenic aids listed below. Do not pick an ergogenic aid that another student has selected and posted.

If you want to learn more about an ergogenic aid, a compendium on these is currently in the process of being published. Twenty have been completed. I put these under "Resources, Week 4, Ergogenic Aid Articles." These will give you more information and may help you pick the aid you might want to discuss. If you would like to discuss one of the aids in these articles, but it is not on the list, send me an email to approve.

Now go to the APUS online library and find one published peer-reviewed research article on the ergogenic aid you picked. Do not use Muscle Magazine or a similar magazine because these are for the general public and are not peer-reviewed. The journal article you select should be a research study that shows how your chosen ergogenic aid affects athletic performance, positively or negatively. Remember, a research article is not a review article. A research article reports the results of a research study. You can tell the difference between a research article and a review article because a review article summarizes several research studies.

If you cannot find a research article in the APUS online library, go to the following website: PubMed. In the search bar at the top, enter the ergogenic aid you selected.

In your Forum post:

· list your selected ergogenic aid,

· provide the reference for your selected article,

· describe how your particular ergogenic aid purportedly enhances performance,

· describe the study and the results, and

· evaluate the article. For example, does the study make appropriate conclusions from its data? Was the study designed correctly to address the hypothesis?

Q3

Title: Whole Foods Effect on Athletic Performance

Read the following article that appeared in the Medical Daily.

Article for General Public

We are seeing many of these types of articles in the media for the general public. Whole foods have health properties.

Here is the original peer-reviewed research article:  Original Research Article

For this discussion, find a peer-reviewed research article that associates a whole food, like avocados, with athletic performance. You can pick any whole food, but you will have the most success if you choose a plant-based food. Once you have selected your food, search for that food in PubMed. I attached an article I found when I searched "blueberry exercise." You may want to focus on exercise since this is a sports nutrition class but you do not have to. It will depend on the food you have selected. You may have to choose several different foods until you find one that has articles showing it has health benefits. If you pick a plant product, such as a vegetable or fruit, you should find an article reasonably quickly.

Do not pick a product someone else has selected.

Do not select blueberries.

In your discussion, you will need to discuss the article you selected. Don't forget to include some background information. Here are some suggestions? Tell us:

· the food you picked

· the effect it has on health,

· summarize the research paper you found,

· evaluate the study

Q4

Branding has been a heavy marketing focus in recent years. As you shop for products, branding can influence your shopping behavior. You may recognize a familiar brand that is known for its quality. Other times, you may recognize a brand that is more environmentally conscious. Branding can help you to decide which product to buy in a competitive market.

Research

This week do some research on branding as well as marketing channels. Consider the relationship between these two as you reflect on the following questions.

Discuss

· How important is branding or brand image for marketers?

· Marketers have many channels to consider as they decide on placement. Should channel images be consistent with brand images? Why or why not?

· What type of effect has online availability had on branding?

Q5

Affirmative action was first instituted by President John F. Kennedy by an Executive Order signed on March 6, 1961.  This initiated a requirement that federally funded contracts and programs actively engage plans for employing minorities.  Affirmative action grew over time under subsequent Presidential orders and legislation to include women along with minorities for their active preferential placement in higher education enrollment as well as in employment. The purpose of affirmative action is to level the playing field for applicants by opening opportunity to classes of otherwise qualified individuals subjected to discrimination in hiring and education, due to a social legacy of racial, gender, and ethnic prejudice.  Nearly 60 years since JFK's Executive Order, many now argue that affirmative action has served its purpose and that its cumbersome administrative requirements are a burden that schools and employers no longer need to bear. Others argue that the deep prejudices underlying the purpose of affirmative action continue to plague American society and justify its continuing importance to promote and ensure diversity in society's critical settings of education and workforce.

LISTEN TO THE FOLLOWING PODCAST FOR PREPARING THIS DISCUSSION:

Podcast: The Viability of Affirmative Action in 2020; Politics in the Workplace with Dr. Linda Ashar and Dr. Gary Deel.

Take a Position For or Against Affirmative Action:

· Research and summarize  the  essential requirements of affirmative action. Where, how, and why is it applied?

· Consider the pros and cons of affirmative action based on your review of the required readings and your own research. Include case law in your analysis.

· Take a position either pro or against continuation of affirmative action as a legal requirement of covered employers and universities . Present your position and discuss your reasons for your position. This should be more than just a personal opinion. Support your analysis with examples, which can include objective personal experience and observations.
