Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological theory explains the interrelation and interaction of everything with each other (to some degree) which has proven to be beneficial when providing an insight into factors that play a role in an individual’s growth and development (Christensen, 2016). The key systems are microsystem (interactions in immediate environment), mesosystem (interaction between members in microsystem impacting development), exosystem (indirect influences on development), macrosystem (cultural and society's influence on development), and chronosystem (Time period we are interacting in).
I will be using the Good family, whose names have been changed, as an example. This family consists of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Good, and a child, Michael (microsystem). Michael is having a difficult time with his assignments in school so Mrs. Good and his teacher have a meeting to discuss ways they can help him. They decided he would benefit from special education services (mesosystem). Mr good gets into an argument with a coworker at work so when he gets home from work he is in a bad mood (exosystem). He is already in a bad mood and when he learns of Mrs. Good and the teacher’s decision, he disagrees with them due to the stigma of special education he remembers from when he was in school (macrosystem). The teacher reassures Mr. Good that in today’s society there is no longer a big stigma of receiving special education services (chronosystem). In the end, both parents agree that Michael would benefit from getting special education services.

Re: Topic 1 DQ 1
Class,
The article states that the stages of Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological theory are The Microsystem,The Mesosystem,The Exosystem, and The Macrosystem. The one point that I found the most interesting on the article and the most fitting to my family is "Another dimension not included in Bronfenbrenner’s theory is resilience. It should have
been integrated into his theory (Engler, 2007) because resiliency helps us better understand
an individual’s capacity." My family has overcome a lot in our lives throughout our lives and have always found a way to overcome. My mother is bipolar and I have taken care of her off and on since I 18. The biggest thing that my family has had to overcome is 2 years ago we had to relocate do to Hurricane Michael. No matter what we have stuck together as a family unit. The struggles have strengthened us in the long run. Showing us that we can overcome anything whether is be our house being destroyed or constantly fixing moms meds and staying on top of her illness there is nothing we cannot do together.
