Personality and Behavioral Blends

Behavioral blends are a combination of the four personality types discovered by Hippocrates in 400 B.C. These personality types influence how human beings think, feel, behave, communicate with one another, and respond to the stimuli around them (Carbonell, 2008).  The "DISC" personality assessment is one of the various tests given to describe an individuals personality type and behavioral tendencies. Carbonell (2008) believes that people fit better in life where they are understood and comfortable. In other words, when an individual is understood and celebrated for who they are a person, they are given the freedom to come alive. Communication is the means by which individuals are understood and celebrated. Stewart (2012) states that no one person can completely control communication and no one person can be blamed for a communication outcome - positive or negative. True communication is a collaborative effort between two or more individuals. Everyone has a unique combination of personality types within the "DISC" model.

For example, my results show that I am an "S/C"  personality combination in private. According to the "DISC" profile results,

" These individuals are typically stable and contemplative. They like to search and discover the facts. They like to weigh the evidence and proceed slowly to a logical conclusion. They enjoy small groups of people. They do not like speaking in front of large crowds. They are systematic and sensitive to the needs of others, but can be critical and caustic. They are loyal friends, but can be too fault- finding. They need to improve their enthusiasm and optimism. They are motivated by kind and conscientious opportunities to slowly and correctly do things."

On the other hand my "S" personality traits tend to take over while in public. That means personality traits such as kindness, loyalty, dependability, stability, and compassion shine forth while I am around others. The largest difference between public and private sectors is that my personality type has a hard time saying "No" in public, but in private enjoys taking time to process and think about a logical answer to situations. The summary also notes that as an "S/C" type I tend to enjoy small groups as compared to large bodies of people. Further, my personality type tends to be a better listener than motivator. Listening is important in making others feel understood, but having a hard time to motivate others can cause a gap in communication process. Overall, based on the results of the graphs from the personality assessment there are many areas in which I am strong and need to grow to better my communication with others.
