Managers often find themselves sandwiched in a position where they must manage priorities at many levels. The organization has priorities that must be addressed, the manager has his or her own set of priorities, and then he or she must help their team members manage priorities. Even in your personal life, you may find yourself struggling to prioritize the needs of family, commitments to teams or other social organizations, and your own personal desires and interests. In this Discussion, you will examine different barriers to effective prioritization and explore techniques to avoid bottlenecks.

To Prepare for this Discussion:

· Read this week’s Learning Resources, especially:

· Morgenstern, J. (2016). What to do when your to-do-list Is holding up your team. Harvard Business Review Digital Articles

Post a cohesive response in which you:

· Identify which of the four root causes of bottlenecking, as described by Morgenstern, you think you struggle with most: Plate-spinning, People-pleasing, perfectionism, or processing intuitively.

· Describe a time, whether in your professional or personal life, where this root cause created difficulties for you in prioritizing or accomplishing your goals. What professional or personal challenges did you face, and how did you prioritize them at the time?

· From your perspective, why did your decisions seem like the best course of action at the time?

· Describe any feedback you received from others or what you believe their perspective might have been.

· Select at least one of Morgenstern’s tips for getting out of productivity traps that you could have used at the time. How would you have applied her technique and how do you think it would have helped?

· What lessons do you think your example offers that might help a manager understand how to juggle all of the competing priorities that he or she may face? How might you apply this knowledge in your future roles?

Be sure to support your ideas by connecting them to the week's Learning Resources, as well as other credible resources that you have read; or what you have observed and experienced.

General Guidance: Your original post, should be 3–4 paragraphs in length as a general expectation/estimate.
