PEER 1-BF

The desired position that I have looked into is a Behavioral Analyst for the FBI, but to do that, I will have to go to school for my Master's degree. Another desired position I thought about looking into was that of a writer, and I have always had an interest in writing.

Statistics, statistical thinking, and data literacy are both helpful and required for the first position I identified are to understand a person’s mental state and the statistics of their crimes. The statistics allowed me to know how people commit crimes.

I can use the Occupational Outlook Handbook from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to help me make data-based career decisions by looking for a  job I am interested in. The statistics regarding jobs that I found the most useful are earnings, numbers of employment, and job outlooks.

Statistics, statistical thinking, and data literacy can help to address any of the following programmatic course themes in the context of the chosen careers are social justice, ethics. In the matters of social justice it allows so to understand how things can go the wrong way as well as we can stop it. With ethics we are able to see how we are able to see is statistics can be harmful.

PEER2-RW

· Identify either your current professional position or a desired position. Consider referring to the provided article for inspiration. I am still undecided on what I want to do with my degree. I am doing business administration so my ideal career goal is to open my own business. I haven't decided on what yet, but I have been thinking about it. I really love clothes and fashion, so maybe something along those lines.

· Describe how statistics, statistical thinking, or data literacy is helpful or required for the position you identified. Statistics and statistical thinking is a very important part when owning a business. Statistical research gives managers the information they need to make informed decisions in uncertain circumstances, whether it be with an employee or a customer. Statistics also help in business planning on the basis of sound predictions and assumptions. In businesses, statistics can help in measuring variations in performance of products, employees, business units, etc.

· Explain how you can use the  Occupational Outlook Handbook  from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to help you make data-based career decisions.

The occupational outlook handbook is very useful for me when looking into a new career or to see other options. The handbook provides data on earnings, projected growth, along with providing a brief description of the career, work environment, similar occupations, state and area data, and what the job requirements are. For example, when looking up victim’s advocate the handbook showed me data on social workers. The data showed that the median paying annual wage as of 2020 is around $51,760. The handbook also stated that employment of social workers is expected to grow twelve percent of the next ten years.

· How could statistics, statistical thinking, or data literacy help to address any of the following programmatic course themes in the context of the chosen careers? You may want to review the  Programmatic Themes  document.

While I feel that statistics, statistical thinking, and data literacy directly apply to all of the programmatic themes, I think for me personally it applies more towards ethics. It is our responsibility to educate those with whom we work about statistics, statistical thinking, and data literacy. In the absence of understanding statistics and data, we cannot make educated choices regarding effective treatment strategies. We all want the greatest results for the people we work with and being able to evaluate statistics and data is crucial.
