• response should be a minimum of 75 words.

• In the course of your responses, you might comment on the following types of questions: Have you noticed other examples of the fallacy that your classmate presents? Why do you suppose that people are prone to make errors of this type? What else might people keep in mind to learn to reason better in such cases?

PEERS RESPONSE:

The fallacy that I commit the most is the slippery slope. I do this in my parenting the most, but also with myself for school and work. The slippery slope is if A then B then C and so on and so forth. You must not let A happen because then the chain of events will ensue. The example of this that I commit the most is:

If my kids don't do their chores, or help out around the house they will have poor work ethic

With poor work ethic they will not be able to hold down a good job

Without a good job, they won't be able to support themselves

If they can't support themselves, then what kind of value will they bring to society

and so on and so forth. I know it can be irrational thinking, but I sometimes can not help myself. I'm pretty sure it comes from a fear of failure within myself, that I don't want to project to my children, but it happens. As a parent I am so worried that I am not doing it right, or that they will make the wrong decisions, and it will be all our fault. See, irrational I know. I need to remind myself that they are kids, with minds of their own who will make their own decisions and hopefully good decisions that they learned from myself and Dad. This fallacy is hard to not do.
