Project Management Proposal (2,000 words)
This Project Management Proposal will encompass the project management principles to provide a
coherent document that considers many of the approaches discussed in lectures. The focus is on you
instigating or participating in a small project that will be of benefit to your organisation (or external
organisation) or may be central to your coursework studies. For example, you may be able to use
elements of the PM method toward the planning of a research topic.
It is up to you to choose a project for this assignment. You can be as creative as you like, or can use a project that has previously been undertaken by yourself, or someone else in your organisation.
The following areas are expected to be covered in your Project Management Proposal.

Project definition
Define the project that you wish to undertake as succinctly as possible bearing in mind the time and other constraints of the project. Organisational strategic fit is important for work related projects. Student research projects should consider the context of their course objectives / generic skill requirements in terms of strategic fit.

Business case You have now (hopefully) defined the strategic fit of the project. The next step is to define the business case (p.38 Dobie) This should include (at the very least): - an options analysis (with either an NPV or MCA approach to analysis) - A recommendation

Work Breakdown Structure (Part 1)
Develop a suitable process or a suitable approach of the ‘bottom up’ view of the work of the project Prepare a WBS using a method suited to the project area i.e. chart, lists, mind map. This should also include a cost schedule.
