Here is the poem you choose for for Essay #1 AND Response #2. Feel free to write your response and then use that writing and poem as the basis for your first essay, of course making sure you write at least 3 FULL pages for the Essay #1 AND cite the poem in the body and on a Works Cited (MLA) or References (APA) page. Essays that fail to cite in BOTH areas will at the least lose points.

· Be at least 3 FULL pages long (to the bottom of Page 3). Points will be deducted based on lack of length. For instance, a 2-page paper cannot receive a grade higher than 66, and probably will have other issues that result in more points deducted.
· Be in proper MLA OR APA format as seen on the example essays Sample MLA Essay Sample APA essay ( https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/18/
· Be in proper paragraph format, one-inch margins, heading on the first page, header in the upper left of each page, Times New Roman 12 point font, and double-spacing throughout. For APA, most of the format is the same except for a running head. Be sure which one you are using before submitting the essay. 10 points will be deducted for failure to follow the guidelines here.
· Have a Works Cited page OR a References page (APA) with the poem properly cited. A grade of 0 can be given to essays that fail to have a citation page.
· Have the poem cited within the text by line number after you introduce the poem in the introduction. A grade of 0 can be given to essays that fail to cite in the body of the essay.
Read over the directions for Essay #1 Below. The first document entitled Essay 1 Explication contains the instructions, but ignore the verbiage about drafts and due dates.
Your essay MUST:
· Be at least 4 FULL pages long (to the bottom of Page 4).
· Be in proper MLA format as seen on the example essay Sample MLA Essay with proper paragraph format, one-inch margins, heading on the first page, header in upper left of each page, Times New Roman 12 point font, and double-spacing throughout.
· Have a Works Cited page with the poem properly cited and the poem cited within the text. Both of these elements need to be there; otherwise, it's considered "fabrication," a form of plagiarism, and will receive penalties.
· Be uploaded to Assignments folder Essay #1 NO LATER than July 17th by Midnight. NO late work will be accepted for any reason.
