EXAMPLE SUMMARIES: Student examples. Do not copy. Make your summary convey your passion, skills, qualifications, and excellent writing abilities!

As an emerging public health professional, I have a passion for improving the health status of communities in the Tampa Bay area. My interest in maternal and child health guided me to dedicate many volunteer hours to serving this population. I have witnessed the strength of public health preventative services and the effectiveness of targeting evidence-based interventions to promote the health within at-risk populations. I intend to use my education and training to promote community health through public health organizations and outreach programs.

I have always been motivated to make a difference in my community. This has led me to take action through volunteering, peer education and mentorship of young girls. Entering the field of public health will allow me to apply the skills I have gained throughout my time at the University of South Florida. Being a part of organizations such as the Association of Fundraising Professionals and Pre-Conception Peer Educators helped me gain valuable insight into how community organizations function. I am eager to join the public health workforce to improve the social and physical conditions that affect health outcomes for at-risk communities.

EXAMPLE USF DESCRIPTION: You can use what you like of this. You CAN copy. See the Points of Pride page on USF’s website for up-to-date information.
