Running head: BEHAVIOR APPROACH 1
BEHAVIOR APPROACH 5
POST- 1
In the book "Leadership Theory and Practice", it states " Situational approach focuses on leadership in situations. The premise of the theory is that different situations demand different kinds of leadership." (Northouse, p. 95) In other words, to describe style leadership is to understand that depending on the situation or those involved will determine the outcome of the leader. Not everyone is going to want a direct request from their superior, and then others do not enjoy the free range when not given a clear direction. To help break this down further the book creates two main categories, Directive behaviors, and Supportive behaviors. "Directive behaviors clarify, often with one-way communication, what is to be done, how it is to be done, and who is responsible for doing it." and "Supportive behaviors involve two-way communication and responses that show social and emotional support to others." (Northouse, 2018. p.96) Having these two main groups helps define which route a leader will go to help direct the team based on the situation. The main purpose of this approach is to help a leader determine the situation and find a way to help all those involved succeed to their highest potential. If someone thrives in a situation when they are given clear and direct goals then you would want to lead them in this direction, so they will remain confident in their abilities. If a leader changes their methods and switched to a supportive approach with these individuals you may see a negative reaction and a lack of motivation towards the end goal.
I would 100 percent agree that a leader being able to adapt their leading strategies to each situation and person would affect the team's motivation in a positive way. For one, it shows that the leader can adapt and transform depending on the situation. No matter what field you are in, being a leader means that you are forever growing and developing your skills. If you stay leading the same way for years, then you are confined to your box and not willing to think about the endless possibilities to make things better. Two, it will show those working with you that you care about them and their way of working. As a leader, your main goal is to help all those involved succeed. By adapting and modeling to reach each person you are showing that you care and you want them to be working at their highest potential.

POST -2
The behavior approach focuses on the behavior of the leader. The two general kinds of behaviors for this approach are task behaviors and relationship behaviors. Task behavior focuses on goal accomplishment. This can be helping group members to accomplish their goals. Relationship behaviors assist followers to feel comfortable with others and themselves. This also helps followers feel comfortable in situations that may present themselves in the future to each follower. The main objective of the behavioral approach is to describe how leaders can bring together both these behaviors to encourage and help others within the organization to reach their goal.
A leader’s motivation for adapting his/her leadership style has an enormous effect on followers within the organization. The approach a leader takes to each situation will determine the reaction from their followers. A leader must know when to approach a situation more task oriented, or relationship oriented. When it comes to taking the steps to achieve the vision of the organization a leader may choose to be more task oriented. A leader may do this to list steps and short-term objectives with followers to map out how the vision will be achieved. Whereas a leader with a relationship oriented may focus on building more connections with others to create a shared vision to encourage the followers to want to achieve the vision for the organization. A relationship-oriented leader will attend to followers’ personal needs, build respect/trust, and chose specific jobs to the uniqueness of each follower to obtain the vision. Overall, the leadership style the leader chooses to use for every situation that comes up will have a different effect on each follower.
