LEADING TEAMS ASSIGNMENT.
MGT-20125 Management Plan Document
Name: Walter Jofre Jr.
Part One: Team Dynamics
For information about the team, refer to the Employee Personas document, which you can find in the Supporting Materials section of the Project Instructions. First, review the characteristics of each person on the team. Then, consider the makeup of the team by addressing the following questions. Type your responses in the text boxes provided.
Which characteristics of the individuals and team will impact group dynamics?
Frank is good at brainstorming. He is able to develop ideas but is weaker when it comes to putting them into action. Alyson is able to work well with others and has good team qualities. She can effectively impose new ideas and also is a problem solver. Displays phenomenal leadership skills and is experienced. Jerry has great curiosity and energy, traits that prevent him from focusing during meetings. He also is motivated and uses his time wisely. He also is highly experienced. Sarah is strong in data analysis and hence can quickly come up with solutions to existing problems. Even so, she needs to understand the bigger picture before coming up with a solution. Portia is a go-getter when seeking to advance to new roles. She is highly experienced and will take on extra tasks for the team. Arjun works best when working independently. He shows great potential for growth because his work speaks for itself. |
How will these characteristics positively and negatively impact the group’s behavior and performance?
The team members have very different traits. In the event they can come to work collaboratively, then the traits will function to complement each other leading to enhanced performance. On the other hand, in the event they fail to find a common ground to collaborate during their meetings, the differing traits might lead to conflicts. The group can only progress in the event the characteristics can be used to support one another rather than create an environment of competition. |
Part Two: Theories
Use the following table to evaluate how specific theories support your leadership of the team. You will select two theories to evaluate, and then use your evaluation to select a theory that you find most appropriate. For example, you might evaluate how systems theory and McGregor’s Theory X and Theory Y would support your leadership of the team. Type your responses in the table provided.
How does each theory support your leadership of the specific team?
The management theory guarantees that the team members are appropriately supervised, organized, and that group performance is enhanced. Through rewards and punishments, it is possible to ensure that positive behaviors are reinforced while the negative ones are eliminated. On the other hand, the human relations theory ensures that the social aspect of teams and teamwork is used to advance performance. The theories might be opposites because the latter suggests that humans often are motivated by social rather than environmental factors. Even so, they both work to enhance employee satisfaction. |
What theory best helps you lead the team? How does it support cohesive team dynamics? How will it positively impact group behavior and performance?
The human relations theory supports my team because it considers their characteristics and their ability to work collaboratively. It is based on the premise that performance was a consequent effect of the attention paid to workers because it made them feel valued. Attending to the needs of each individual member while seeking to achieve a specific team objective is valuable in ensuring a more cohesive team is created. Trust developed ensures that team performance is enhanced. |
How will the theory you chose help you lead the team in various situations? For example, how might you use this theory in a price-competitive environment, where team efficiency is critical to the company's profitability? Provide specific examples.
In a price competitive environment, it will befit to enhance collaboration even further. This means that team members will be allowed to share ideas at the basic level while receiving support from the managers. They also will constantly be provided with feedback on matters they raise and have some of their individual needs met in the course of the meetings. |
Part Three: Technologies
Use the following table to evaluate how specific technologies assist in facilitating effective teamwork and supporting the specific team dynamics. You will select two technologies to evaluate and then use your evaluation to select a technology that you find most appropriate. For example, you might evaluate how a video conferencing tool would support the team. Type your responses in the table provided.

Supports a remote workforce |

Promotes collaboration across teams |
It is possible to give access privileges to other teams hence enhancing collaboration. |
Select the best technology to help you lead the team. Then, explain why you made this choice. How will the technology that you chose support teamwork and positively impact group behavior and performance?
Video conferencing is the selected technology because it ensures that team members can conduct remote face to face meetings to share ideas. It also means that the same behaviors displayed during office meetings will also be displayed hence promoting positive behavior and performance. |
Provide examples of how the selected technology may be used to lead the team in various situations. For example, how will the technology support remote employees?
Videoconferencing helps a leader keep cohesive groups even when members live far from one another. It now is a mainstream tool to build virtual teams. It can be done through mobile phones via various technologies that can affordably be accessed. |
How does the theory you chose support your choice of technology?
Alongside videoconferencing, the human relations theory will work to ensure that the individuals can build relationships with each other. By seeing eye to eye even when geographically distant builds rapport and enhances the ability to apply the strategies developed under the theory to enhance social good within the group. |
