VINCENT’S POST:

Wo are the Palenquero People?

The Palenquero’s are Africans located in the community in Columbia. They were isolated for over 400 years and were considered to be freedom fighters. They were also considered to be the first official free community in the Americas. They also spoke a mixture of Spoke both Spanish & Palenquero.

What is a creole language. How is the Palenquero language?

A language that combines two or more languages is called a creole language. When people who speak different languages live in the same area, these kinds of languages form. Haitian Creole is the creole language with the greatest global recognition. The French language and the African languages of the slaves the French brought to Haiti became Haitian Creole. The Haitian Creole language is frequently referred to as creole; However, numerous creole languages can be found all over the world. The Palenquero people spoke both Spanish and Palenquero.

How did professor Schwegler reconstruct the Palenquero history?

Dr. Schwegler studied the culture and language the Palenquero people for over 30 years. He reconstructed the Palenquero history due to research of the spoken language and were able to find key links that relate back to Kongo. Due to language and DNA, Dr. Schwdgler was able to determine that Palenque people are descendants of the people of Mayombe in Kongo region. Overall, Dr. Schwdgler was able to reconstruct the Palenequero history by doing extensive research on the language spoken and help from genetics to help determine where they are from.

Describe your impressions about Palenqueros.

I’m impressed that the Palenquero people were able to speak both Spanish and Palenquero. The Palenquero people are a strong Africa community that survived slavery and proudly spoke their language.

Compare the Palenquero history depicted by Dr. Schwegler with U.S. African American History.

Dr. Schwegler  was able to reconstruct the Palenquero history based on U.S. African American history. The main comparison between the both is the slave trade. For instance, Dr. Schwedgler discussed the slave trade that lasted 400 years. The Africans were transported by ship to both Latin America and North America. Because of that, a lot of Africans today do not know where they are originally from. Overall, understanding the slave trade and where Africans were transported to is U.S. African American History that helped Dr. Schwegler find out the location of where the Palenquero people descended from.
