Journal: Personality Tests
What do you think is the usefulness of knowing the results from the IPIP-NEO?
The IPIP-NEO is a well-validated and widely used personality assessment tool that uses the five-factor model to assess an individual's personality traits (FFM). The assessment results can provide insights into a person's personality and help them better understand their strengths, weaknesses, and behavioral patterns (Ogunsemi et al., 2022). Knowing the results of the IPIP-NEO is helpful because it can provide valuable insights into an individual's personality, which can help them in many areas of their life, such as career planning, personal growth, and relationships. For example, if a person scores high on conscientiousness, they may be better suited to careers that require attention to detail, such as accounting or engineering. Similarly, a person with a high agreeableness score may be better suited to careers that involve working with people, such as counseling or social work.
Did you agree with the results?
Yes, I partly agree with the results; for example, based on the performance in the extraversion domain, I always try to engage, enjoy being around people, demonstrate a positive feeling towards friends, enjoy the excitement of the groups, and sometimes directing the activities of others (Ogunsemi et al., 2022). Nevertheless, I can't entirely agree with the excitement-seeking score since I can always survive in the noise. Based on conscientiousness, I disagree with the performance on self-efficacy since I always feel effective and believe in my ability to accomplish something. Concerning the neuroticism facets, I disagree with the performance score on depression. I always try to initiate activities even in my low situation. I always ensure that I am not overwhelmed by anxiety or stress. Concerning the openness to experience, I believe that my imagination is still the same since I always try to imagine how my life will be in the future with increased efforts in my academics and other life-related activities.
How would you feel if you received the feedback from the Sample Personality Results Report?
I can experience various emotions after receiving feedback from the Sample Personality Results Report. It is also possible to feel validated by the results and see them as an opportunity for personal growth (Ogunsemi et al., 2022). Alternatively, feeling uneasy or skeptical about the assessment's accuracy is also possible. It is important to remember that assessment results are not absolute and can be influenced by factors such as mood, context, and personal biases.
How could these results inform treatment?
The IPIP-NEO assessment results can influence treatment in a variety of ways. For example, suppose a person has an elevated level of neuroticism and suffers from anxiety or depression. In that case, a therapist may use cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to assist them in developing coping mechanisms and strategies to manage their symptoms (Maples-Keller et al., 2019). Similarly, if a person's extraversion is low, a therapist may use social skills training or exposure therapy to help them become more comfortable in social situations. Overall, the IPIP-NEO results can serve as a starting point for treatment planning and assist therapists in tailoring interventions to the individual's personality and needs.
