Professional School Counseling is the peer-reviewed, scholarly journal to which I will submit my publication manuscript for review. This journal publishes peer-reviewed research articles as well as conceptual manuscripts and practitioner research articles. Professional School Counseling is published by the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) and is free to ASCA members. School counselors from across the country as well as building and district administrators read this quarterly publication.
This journal is appropriate for my research because articles published in Professional School Counseling directly inform the practice of school counseling and addresses how school counseling affects other areas of education. Because my research focuses on the practice of school administrators and school counselors, Professional School Counseling offers a reasonable platform to discuss and propose research on the ethical tensions between these two roles that are prominent in many schools. The proposed research offers new insights to school counseling practice and how to work best with school administrators. An example of an article citation from Professional School Counseling is as follows:
Moyer, M., Sullivan, J., & Growcock, D. (2012). When is it ethical to inform administrators
about student risk-taking behaviors? Perceptions of school counselors. Professional School Counseling. 15(3). 98-109. http://www.jstor.org/stable/42732929.
Manuscripts submitted to Professional School Counseling must follow a number of guidelines. Each manuscript should be submitted electronically and should not be under consideration by any other journal for publication. Authors should use the formatting guidelines in the American Psychological Association Publication Manual published in 2010. The American School Counseling Association does not allow any footnotes or a bibliography. Manuscripts should not exceed 20 pages, not including references and be double-spaced. Wide margins are helpful for those reviewing the manuscript. Furthermore, reviews of manuscripts are blind so no identifying information should be included on the manuscript (ASCA, 2010).
