3.7 APA Title Page
Background Information
This assignment marks the beginning stages of the research process you will learn about and conduct in this course. A title page will be included in most, if not all, of your written assignments throughout your college experience. APA is the format IWU uses to properly cite research, and specific guidelines must be followed when preparing a title page. In this activity, you will be choosing a research topic (title) from a list of topics directly related to your degree program. The topic you choose for this assignment will likely be the topic addressed in the 5.6 Research Paper assignment; however, you may find it necessary to change your topic between now and Workshop Five. Consult your instructor if you wish to discuss changing your topic. This is the beauty of the research process; research yields new information which causes the writer to reconsider his or her ideas. Research is a discovery process. A note to save you time and trouble... Beginning with this assignment, you will be building the groundwork (i.e., selecting a topic, creating a title page) for the creation of a Research Paper that you will prepare later (Workshop 5) in this course. Be sure to save all your work and sources as you work toward your final paper.
Instructions
1. Review the resources provided above in relation to the creation of a Title Page in APA format.
2. Open the IWU APA 6e Guide. Instructions for creating a title page are found in Formatting your Paper and Formatting your Paper in Word, along with a sample paper at the end of the Guide.
3. Choose a topic related to your program, field of study, or interest from the Sample Research Topic file. Use your chosen topic as the title.
4. Format your title page according to APA guidelines.
5. Use the APA title Page Template to assist you in this process.
6. Complete your assignment, save a copy for yourself (on your hard drive or flash drive) and submit a copy to your instructor using the Assignment Dropbox. Submit by the end of the workshop.

After selecting a topic, it is time to locate sources. Review the OCLS Orientation materials before moving forward with this assignment. In addition to the orientation information, a research guide has been provided to assist you. The research you conduct for this assignment will help you complete subsequent research-related assignments in this course and in future courses. Refer to the APA Guide frequently as you proceed with your research. The information in the APA Guide enables you to communicate clearly the results of your research and is essential to your success as a student. Helpful Hint: Some students find it helpful to print out the APA Guide, punch holes and place the pages in a 3-ring binder. This prevents so much toggling and scrolling within the document, especially for those who do not have access to a second monitor.
