Requirements for All Papers
Cover page: On every cover page, include your name; class; module & assignment; professor’s name; and the date. Double space all papers.
Papers that do not contain in-text citations and a reference list will have points deducted from the grade. That means you have to cite the source of the information within the body of the paper like this (Author’s last name, Year) and include a full reference list at the end of the paper (not just a list of links).
To make sure you understand how to properly cite sources, review these sites: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/02/ and http://www.apastyle.org/learn/tutorials/basics-tutorial.aspx
If you have questions after reading this, your professor or I will be glad to talk with you. We are both in the ClassList for emailing.
Use your own words (not quotes). It is very important to demonstrate that you have synthesized the ideas presented in your papers. Using quotes shows that you can find information, but doesn't show what you learned and understand. Direct quotes are rarely necessary and must be cited properly. Refer to http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/02/ for APA style citation format. It is critical that your work is your own work. Be sure that your writing is in your own words.
Read the Expectations listed under each assignment to help you earn maximum credit.
In the new TLC system all assignments follow a new scoring systems explained in our syllabus. Each case assignment is worth 50 points, each SLP is worth 30 points and your participation in the Discussions of every module is worth 20 points.
Each assignment is graded using a rubric that distributes the points based on several criteria. For example, case assignments take into consideration: Key elements of the assignments (50%), critical thinking (20%), and scholarly writing, quality of references, organization, and citing sources (30%). All assignments should follow the page length required without counting the cover page and references and including about 300 words per page.
University Policies
It is your responsibility to read and follow all policies in the Trident catalog, available at so please review it. Your advisor, your professor, and I will be happy to answer any questions about them. These are three important policies that I highlight for your attention:
· Academic Participation and Substantive Interaction. You are required to participate in class at least once a week in a regular, timely, and substantive manner. You must participate in all Modules.
· Academic Integrity – please read the Catalog carefully regarding plagiarism.
· Extensions and “Incomplete” Grades. Extension may be granted only under extenuating circumstances and if you meet the requirements. To be eligible to request an extension, you must complete the Case, TD, and SLP in Modules 1, 2, and 3. Extensions may be approved as a courtesy; they are not a “right,” so please don’t assume your request will be approved. You must submit the request through your online Student Services account. Extension requests made by email cannot be approved.
Use your Trident email as the official university email. Contact IT support@trident.edu if you cannot access to your Trident email.
Log in to TLC and Post to the Introduction Discussion so your professor knows you have access. Include a statement that confirms you have read and understood these guidelines. That confirmation means you agree to follow all requirements explained above and that you have reviewed the policies in the catalog.
We want you to learn and we want you to earn good grades but that can be done only with your full involvement.
'Writing Style Guide' and 'Trident APA Basics' document in the Student Resources area in TLC. You can see them under 'My Resources' at your TLP portal. You can include them in the welcome message (if you have already sent out welcome message, these two resources can be posted on announcement page).
