Competency

In this project, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competency:

Arculate the roles and funcons of the informaon technology professional

Scenario

Whether you are just beginning your career in informaon technology or taking the next step in your career path, it is vital to understand the numerous opportunies available to you

within this field. In this project, you will be conducng a survey of the informaon technology field that includes several career opons aligned with your interests and begins to sketch

out the training and cerficaons necessary for those roles.

Direcons



The Informaon Technology Field: Before you explore career opons in informaon technology, it is important to disnguish between the various disciplines that exist within this field.

In this secon, you will be considering these disciplines, as well as two primary tools for informaon technology professionals: programming and scripng.

IT Disciplines: To begin your report on careers within the informaon technology field, define the disncon between computer science, informaon systems, engineering,

and informaon technology. In your descripon, first define each discipline and then describe how that discipline is related to others within IT. In your definion, address the

following:

What roles and careers within the IT field are related to these disciplines?

What tools and technologies are most applicable to these disciplines?

Programming and Scripng: Following your descripon of the different disciplines within informaon technology, explain the relaonship between programming and scripng

and their uses within the IT field. In your explanaon, first define scripng and programming, then address the following:

What disnguishes a script from a program?

How would an IT professional use scripng in their work? How would they use programming?

Describe a potenal case where an IT professional would use a scripng language in their work. Describe a potenal case where an IT professional would use a

programming language in their work.

Informaon Technology Careers: Once you have defined the fields available in the world of informaon technology, it is me to start examining careers. For this secon, you will be

examining three posions within your chosen area of interest.

Careers of Interest: First, idenfy careers of interest within the IT field. You will choose an appropriate entry-level posion, mid-level posion, and ulmately the posion you

will strive to achieve. Then, determine whether each posion is most closely aligned with informaon technology, computer science, informaon systems, or engineering. In

your report, describe the roles and responsibilies of each of these careers. As evidence, ensure that you are subming the job posngs referenced in your report.

Tools and Technologies: Next, within each of your idenfied careers, describe the tools and technologies specific to your chosen IT roles. For each career, idenfy and describe

various tools, including hardware and soware, that a professional working in that career would use.

Training and Cerficaons: Finally, idenfy educaon, training, and cerficaons necessary for chosen IT roles. For your idenfied roles, describe these trainings and

cerficaons, using the informaon in your idenfied job posngs and descripons as a reference. For each training and cerficaon, describe its ulity in the informaon

technology field and sketch out how an interested person would obtain each cerficaon. Finally, describe the transferable skills within these cerficaons and how they might

prepare you for other careers and fields within the informaon technology profession.

What to Submit

To complete this project, you must submit the following:

Informaon Technology Career Report

You will create a report describing the informaon technology field, including disnguishing between the various disciplines within the IT field and idenfying at least three careers of

interest within the field. This report should be between 800–1,200 words. You should also include copies of your selected job posngs for your instructor’s reference.
