Interview
Daniel Richard is a physical therapist in a hospital. He is an experienced physical therapist. He completed his degree of Bachelors in Health Sciences and then completed a program of Doctor of Physical Therapy before starting a career. Physical therapy is the professional career that he is pursuing for a long time. I choose Daniel as my interviewee because I believe he can give me a good insight into my research question. I took his interview and asked some questions that I am going to discuss below.
Interview questions
1. Do you have a specific reason why you wanted to become a physical therapist?
I became a physical therapist because of my deep interest. I really liked this profession since my childhood. I always had a dream to pursue physical therapy as my profession. I took different high school classes required for the admission to the physical therapy program. I used to have sessions with my uncle at my young age who is a senior physical therapist as well.
2. Why do think it’s a good idea to be a physical therapist?
For me, it is a very good idea to become a physical therapist as a person really enjoy this profession and feel very happy when he sees his patient getting progress in the treatment. Being a physical therapist is rewarding. Americans who are looking for a rewarding career should pursue physical therapy in the ongoing struggling job market and job economy as there is a soaring demand for a physical therapist in the present time.
3. What did you get your bachelor’s degree on?
I got my bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences. I completed my bachelor’s degree in this particular program because I believed that it was the need to pursue a DPT. I researched a lot and found that studying health sciences would be beneficial for me if I start my career as a physical therapist. Now it is really helping me as it is a vast area that covers so many things in the field of sciences.
4. Were you in any kind of program for PT?
Yes, I completed my Doctor of Physical Therapy program that lasted for three years. It was such an informative program that I took to continue my career as a physical therapist. If you want to become a physical therapist, this program should be completed so you can start your professional career as a physical therapist.
5. What kind of opportunities were there for you after getting your bachelor degree?
There were a lot of opportunities for me after my bachelor's degree as health sciences have a multi-disciplinary approach, you can find many professions to further continue with. There are a lot of professions associated with health sciences. You get so many choices that you get confused sometimes which to follow. I followed physical therapy as it was my all-time favorite profession.
6. What were some of the difficulties you faced when you were looking for jobs?
7. What are some things I should know before I continue?
You should have a deep study about this profession. I believe that interest matters a lot when choosing a career or profession. Without interest, you can never be good in any profession. You must have prior knowledge about physical therapy before you continue. Before everything you should have mind makeup because you are going to spend many years to become a professional physical therapist. You need to spend seven years after high school as you are required to complete 4 years of bachelors and then 3 years of DPT.
8. What are some jobs that I can apply to, to get experience with what want to pursue?
You should have different internship programs in related fields to get experience. The internship program is the best way to get experience. Other than that, you should take vocational coursework to earn certificate so you can work as a paraprofessional.
9. How long did it take you to finish school and start your job?
After high school, it takes seven years to finish school and start my job. It takes a long time to become a physical therapist as the required academic degree and program needs many years but those years cannot be regret when you start a career as when you find your job satisfying according to your required ability you reward those years you spent in studying.
10. What are some skills a person should have that wants to do DPT?
There a lot of skills required if anyone wants to do DPT. You are required to have reading comprehension, active listening, learning strategies, monitoring, speaking, science, writing, critical thinking, and active learning.
I found this interview really interesting, full of knowledge and thought-provoking. The way Daniel expressed his love for his career was so fascinating. People should have this kind of love and interest while choosing a career. I am going to apply this knowledge for my professional career as well. I get to know about the importance of interest in any field from this interview.
His educational career was so long that it took seven years to complete so he can be a professional physical therapist and that is so inspiring. A person’s hard work can never be regretful in his life ever as the hard work always gives you something rewarding. By interviewing him, I could see his love for his profession in his words, in his eyes, and in his experience as well. lastly, it was great interviewing such a significant physical therapist.
