Internship Site: IDPH, Immunization

Duties performed during this time:

I am a GPSI intern working in this department to maintain the ICARE which is a web based immunization registry .During this week I am in constant touch with different healthcare providers who is trying to get access for the ICARE.I am handling immunization requests as they are coming and helping my department to deliver the immunization records .I am also helping my supervisors to maintain coverage level report for this week for CORONA vaccine as well as flu shots.

The vaccine for children program is funded by the federal government, which provides free vaccines to eligible children ages 18 and younger. IDPH is also responsible for administrating the VFC program within the state excluding the city of Chicago. I am keeping and maintain the data for VFC vaccines in the ICARE and do the monthly analysis by the end of the month.

February is the heart awareness month and I took part in the various webinars for the same in which I came to know that the state’s new comprehensive wellness program which focuses on heart health awareness to help improve health while supporting healthcare resources to maintain a good public health. After attending the webinar, I did some research for that topic more and I came to know more about the difference between cardiovascular and coronary heart disease. Women in the Illinois wore red color dress on 5th February to create an awareness for the health of the heart. Also, being an intern, I took part in the daily weekly meeting and gave the updates about the tasks performed during the week.

Additionally, Illinois has started the mass civid-19 vaccination program.
