Integration Paper #3 - Values

Moral Development and Aggression

Task: Develop your own values shield. See specific instructions below and a sample on the next page.

Please read these instructions carefully and respond to all prompts.

Purpose: Identify, clarify, and integrate personal values and reflect on how these values relate to your life experiences.

Audience: The only audience for this assignment is you. This is a space to help you reflect on what is important while integrating course concepts into that reflection.

Format: Generate one document that includes both your shield and your reflection. The reflection should be in the form of a (2-3 pages double spaced). Use APA formatting. Cite information from your text or another credible source to support the information presented. Please remember to use in-text citations throughout your document and include a reference list.

1. Begin with a circle drawn on a sheet of paper (see the next page for an example). Please draw the circle in Word using shapes/textboxes; a photographed or scanned shield is also acceptable, if included as part of the same document. Divide the circle/page into quadrants. Each quarter of the page should address one of the questions shown on the personal shield example (next page, and listed below). Your shield should reflect what is most important to you. The words around the questions in the shield example will give you some ideas of what you might include.

a. How do I see myself?

b. Who do I aspire to be?

c. How I want others to see me…

d. How I want to be remembered…

2. Next, write a 2-3 page reflection addressing each of the following:

a. Which value is most important to you? How do you think this value guides your actions?

b. Select one value from each quadrant of your values shield. Discuss how these values influence your interactions with people and/or your performance as a student at WSU.

c. Environmental influences in your life helped to shape your values. Use one of the following models/theories to analyze the shaping of your personal values. Include discussion of Bronfenbrenner, Social Learning Theory, OR Baumrind’s Parenting Styles.

3. Use at least one reference to support your work.
