Integrating Technology to Enhance Literacy

It is important to understand how technology can be used in the instruction of literacy in addressing the needs of the learners of the contemporary world. After watching the videos of Classroom videos in Language Arts and digital literacy videos, I have recognized several practices that I would integrate in my teaching career in the future. Lessons learned include the usefulness of multimodal tools, like podcasts, online storytelling, and interactive boards, which allow students several opportunities to demonstrate knowledge (Hoque, 2025). These alternatives cater to the various learning styles and offer struggling readers alternative methods of accessing texts. As an example, oral reading fluency, accumulation, and higher-level thinking could be enhanced by asking students to create podcasts that would increase their confidence. I would also like to resort to digital tools to be used in guided reading tasks, interactive vocabulary development, and continuous formative assessment. The websites like Edutopia and Iowa Reading Research Center refer to how technology is possible to boost engagement, provide timely feedback, and promote differentiated instruction at reading levels (William et al., 2025).

The other imperative aspect is a direct instruction in digital literacy and responsible use of technology. As it is stressed in the article How to Integrate Digital Skills into Literacy Instruction (Wisconsin Literacy, 2025), students should learn how to evaluate online sources, work together properly in the digital context, and speak clearly in the virtual space. Incorporating these competencies into the literacy lessons would aid in equipping the students with the competencies needed to undertake not only academic assignments but also real life communication.

Despite the numerous benefits associated with technology, there are also challenges related to the application of the technology. Disparities in the accessibility of gadgets, lack of internet access, and disparities in the digital knowledge of students may be a setback. To mitigate such challenges, I will plan lessons that involve low-tech or offline options, model digital tools quite clearly, and give the students the opportunity to practice their use in order to provide more students with the necessary support.

Technology has the potential to enhance the teaching of literacy by adding to the levels of engagement, accessibility, and student voice. Digital tools can make the process of reading and writing an active and significant learning process that benefits the learners in case used thoughtfully and responsibly.
