Instructors biography

I'm Dr. Mariana and I will be your instructor for this course. I'd like to introduce myself to you by telling you a little about my background and training. I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Arizona State University and am a licensed psychologist. I am also board certified in Rehabilitation Psychology which means my area of specialty is treating individuals who have physical problems and/or disabilities. My clinical experience has been primarily working with Veterans who sustained a spinal cord injury (i.e., tetraplegia or paraplegia) or were diagnosed with a spinal cord disorder (e.g., multiple sclerosis). It has been incredibly rewarding to work with Veterans and to see how they can overcome obstacles, adapt, and move forward with their lives after such a serious and life-altering injury. One major duty in my clinical work has been to conduct neuropsychological evaluations to assess current cognitive functioning in individuals who may have experienced a traumatic brain injury, a stroke, or other acquired brain injury. And, assessing for dementia in older Veterans has been another part of my clinical work.
