RE: Discussion - Week 2
Do I have concerns? Yes, I have many when it comes to this program and my decision to further my education and career. But my biggest ones are time management as a single parent with a fulltime job and course layout. As a previous IT specialist, the layout and ease to navigate a course in my opinion can make or break a student’s experience. Because this is one of my main issues, I choose Walden University because they use something similar to an integrated approach to online learning. Integrated learning as stated by (Kaufman, 2015) is integrated content was unstructured and adaptable; no textbook-weekly readings provided by instructor; online discussions/team projects with active facilitation by instructor. While there are weekly readings the format Walden uses falls under the integrated approach which I find effective for many students as we are sometimes juggling families and fulltime jobs. To address any issues that I would have with courses or layout I not only have my professor but also Walden’s Academic Advising team as well as the technology support. Walden sets us up for success.
I believe that knowing these concerns and addressing them head on and when the to present an issue will keep me focused and my network of mentors will be there for me. My professional ones when I need to lean on them for moral support as well as professional and educational support and the academic ones for school focused issues.
In the process forming my discussion response I found a network of mentors for future Nurse Practitioners through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. While the program is unavailable right now, I will be looking for when it comes available again. As its goal is to “connects motivated, less-experienced NPs with Fellows who are both leaders in their field and willing to share their expertise to promote the career development of others” (AANP, 2020).
