History
The dance I chose to evaluate is Patyegarang Choreographed by Artistic Director Stephen Page and was released in 2014.
Stephen Page in this dance tried to show us life in the 18th century before the colonial comes and after. He also shows us how tribes lived there. We can see in the beginning there is a girl who seemed an outsider and she was trying to adapt with the surroundings. Later on, girls started showing up to her and acting like her. I really liked this dancing because I love history, and this dance showed us the history of how America started. It was an amazing and successful dance for sure and it did achieved the purpose of it. What made it successful is the music, the dancers and the story of it. The movements in this dance were perfect we can see in (7:06) how the girl was showing that she is with them now. Also, another thing I really liked is the 8th minute, when the music suddenly drop and everyone start acting scared and running away like if they were running for their life. When the modern man came and start dancing, that was the most beautiful moment in this dance, the dancers were acting scared from him and then, they started imitating him.
I believe the best way to evaulate the dance is by reading the purpose of it and then see if it achieved it or not. Clearly, Patyegarang by Stephen Page achieved its' purpose.
