Instructions for the Consultant’s Corner

This component of the Participation grade provides you with an opportunity to APPLY your critical thinking skills and knowledge of course concepts to a specific Human Resources Management-related organizational situation.

Your recommendations as a Consultant for a particular case should be related to concepts covered in the course you are taking – if it is a Compensation course, then compensation practices should be included in your recommendations; if it is a Training and Development course, then T&D practices should be included. If you are taking the Intro Course (mgmt4510), then your choices are wide open.

As a Consultant be sure to clearly identify and address the following FOUR Steps:

ONE – Analysis

What are the healthy and the unhealthy dynamics that are involved in the case?

TWO – Prediction

What will happen if the situation is NOT addressed?

THREE – Options

What different courses of action might be taken to address the situation?

FOUR - Recommendations

What course of action would you choose if you were in charge of the organization?

**Do NOT say that you would “give it to the HR department” – you already have available to you all of the expertise in the HR department. You are the expert, you make the decision!

Discussion Groups at the course website have been created for 7 consulting situations. The course syllabus will indicate the minimum number of these 7 cases that you are expected to do.

When you have finished reading the information in this DOSSIER, you are finished with this website.

**DO NOT use the Create Report section to provide your analysis and recommendations!!

At this point you should proceed to the Consultant’s Corner Discussion Area at the course website.

Create a “new thread” in the Discussion Forum for your case and provide your analysis and recommendations according to the Instructions on the first page.
