WK4 (example answer )

What principle did you select?

I selected principle 2 of part 3, which says “Show respect for the other person's opinion. Never say... ..."You're wrong."

Who did you interact with?

I interacted with one of my classmates.

What was the context?

We were working on a project for our class and we were having a discussion on the requirements and specifications of the project. I realized she had a different opinion, but I felt that was not the right way to go.

What did you expect?

I expected us to agree on this issue because it was critical to the success of the project.

What happened?

I gave my classmate a chance to express her opinion and explain why she felt like it was the best option and then I also told her about what I had in mind and told her to consider it too. I decided to apply this principle to come out with a similar view in order to go ahead with the project with the same ideas in mind.

How did it make you feel?

I felt like the meeting went on well and I was happy that me and my classmate came up with similar views to continue working on the project.

What did you learn?

I learnt that in many cases when another person has a different opinion other than the one that you were thinking, it is easier to think that they are wrong. However, if you give them a chance to explain their opinion you might be surprised that their opinion makes sense too.

What surprised you?

I was surprised of how easy me and my friend came up with similar ideas for our project which is after applying this principal.

How can you apply this going forward?

I will apply this principle going forward by going into a meeting or any form of discussion with an open mind rather than a fixed opinion because I now understand that other people’s opinions may also be right or even better than mine.
