In our penultimate week, we are looking at transnational & translocal currents in Central Asian Islam. Over the last few weeks, we have examined how Central Asian Islam is in many respects a very localized affair (as Islam is everywhere in the world). But we have also seen some hints that there are other influences from beyond Central Asia that may be equally important as local culture and traditions. So for this week, I'd like you to write a 250-word essay about the different ways in which "external" Islamic currents have begun to affect Central Asian society and religion. How have these "external" influences themselves become "localized?"
