PARTICIPANT INFORMATION SHEET FOR LIFE STORY INTERVIEWS TITLE: HAS 121 Human Development in Social Context: Life story interviews PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH: This is an invitation to participate in a teaching and learning assessment task conducted by students enrolled in HAS 121 Human Development in Social Context at the University of Wollongong. The purpose is for students to learn about lifespan human development by conducted a life story interview and analyse the interview using concepts and theories from human development. METHOD AND DEMANDS ON PARTICIPANTS

If you choose to be included, you will be asked to participate in an interview. This interview is estimated to take 60 minutes, depending on the length of responses.

Typical questions would be:

  • Think about your life story as having at least a few different chapters. Whatmight those chapters be? I would like you to describe for me each of the mainchapters of your life story.
  • Please tell me about specific life events, including the high point of your life,the low point of your life, and your first memory.

In this interview, we wish to avoid traumatic expeiences and discussion of criminal activites, so please do not share on these topics.

POSSIBLE RISKS, INCONVENIENCES AND DISCOMFORTS

Apart from the estimate 60 minutes of your time for the interview, there would be no other demand on your time. Your involvement in the study is voluntary and you may withdraw your participation from the study at any time and withdraw any data that you have provided to the student at that point. The student may request to audiotape the interview. The audiotape of the interview and notes from the interview will be

destroyed after the declaration of marks for the subject. Refusal to participate in the study will not affect your relationship with the University of Wollongong.

FUNDING AND BENEFITS OF THE RESEARCH

The student will write about the interview for an assessment. The primary benefit of the research is the student’s learning experience of conducting, analyzing and writing about an interview. When the student is writing the assessment, they would use a made up pseudonym instead of your real name. The material for the interview will only be used for writing this assessment.

This study has been reviewed by the Human Research Ethics Committee (Social science, Humanities and Behavioural Science) of the University of Wollongong.
