C/J/A 111: Asian Film

Spring 2019

Individual (Group) Project: Defining the Terms

This assignment helps the class review and present on the terms of filmmaking and their

context in Asian countries we have learned this semester. The project can be undertaken

by one student, or two or up to three students. It should take the form of PPT slides and

the length is no more than three; specifically, one of the slides has to be a narrative text

and the rest in images with caption(s). The terms to be focused on are available from our

Course Glossary in the folder “Glossary” under OVERVIEW on the Bb course web.

Students are expected to choose ONE term from it, define it according to their own

understanding, and explain it in their own words, and then applies the term to a specific

case or situation (with the help of still images captured from film clips) they select from

the films studied so far. The instructor has made a cluster of film clips (without naming

or defining them) and are accessible from weekly folders. When completed, the projects

should be submitted online to a folder named “Terms--Define and Explain” on the Bb

course web. The deadline for submitting the completed projects are now open and will

remain open till Sunday, April 28. The project counts 10 % towards the term grade total.
