Re:Topic 7 DQ 1

The international emphasis on evidence-based practice (EBP) as a basis for quality care has elevated the importance of EBP dissemination (Kerner, 2008). Dissemination refers to the process of sharing research findings with wider audiences. Dissemination is essential for uptake and use of research findings is crucial for the success and sustainability of practice-based research networks (PBRNs) in the long term (Rimer, & Emmons, 2005).

Internal method of the dissemination of my EBP project is the monthly medical surgical/Telemetry unit clinical team meeting that includes Clinical director, Nursing Director, the chief cardiologist, head nurse, and other staff members which usually lasts for 60 minutes. My plan is to request a 20 minutes presentation of individually printed power point slide handouts based on the results of my project of how to give quality health care and appropriate discharge planning for Coronary Artery bypass patients to reduce hospital readmission.

The external method of dissemination is the American nurses Association of New York. This is the professional association for registered nurses in the state of New York.  ANA-New York is dedicated to promoting excellence in nursing practice, seeks to improve the quality of health care services, and promotes professional and leadership development of registered nurses. As a member of this organization, I can write an article in their magazine and to have a discussion of the highlights of my project in the local association meeting.

It is important to discuss the results of my project to these groups to create awareness of my project. It will be important, therefore, that these groups have a deeper understanding of my project and can assist for action to bring real change in the practice. For the internal method, I use printed slide handouts so that the clinical team members can refer the results for further exploration. For the external method, I want to use writing an article based on my project which can reach a wider audience base that can last for a longer period.
