In what ways does policy research ensure accountability of healthcare and patient safety for the populations with whom they work?
Policy research seeks reasonably useful measures to provide information that could contribute to the design of effective and feasible policy responses to given societal problems. In health care, policy research theory with appropriate rationale is necessary to identify and design the policy according to the target population (Scharpf, 2000). Each policy objectives need to be consistent and must identify the criteria for resolving conflict goals.
What is the doctorly prepared nurses’ role in quality improvement and research within the context of healthcare policy? How do you envision yourself functioning in this sphere?
Most of the problems that interfere with policy implementation are people problems. Nurses are often the implementers of the policy and are often encounter directly encounter dilemmas. So, nurses should be able to identify the issues before even policy implementation. Nurses’ influence in health policies protects patient safety, increases the quality of care, and facilitates their access to the required resources, and promotes quality health care (Taft, & Nanna, 2008).
A DNP graduate is prepared to practice in an area of specialization within the larger domain of nursing. As a DNP-prepared leader, I would like to be involved more in nursing education. I started officially my journey as a nurse educator in 2018. I see a gap in the education method because people create multiple classic methods to teach, however, the students are going through the method only once. Repeating the method advance the instructor’s proficiency; unfortunately, the approach to these new methods is extremely difficult for the students. My teaching method is involving the students during the teaching process, as well as I create multiple evaluations all through the semester. This evaluation is not published or is not university-driven. Therefore, the students are happy to give their honest feedback. This type of method is just for personal improvement. Now, my goal is to introduce this type of teaching technique to nursing educators.

According to IOM statistics (2000), 98,000 Americans die, and more than one million patients suffer injuries each year because of broken health care processes and system failure (Institute of Medicine, & National Academy of Engineering, 2005). Programs and devices using digital technology have great potential to improve population health and the efficiency and reach of health care delivery. The use of telemedicine and telehealth service that includes not just delivery of health care services at a distance but patient and health professional education, public health, and public administration has expanded rapidly to solidify a place in the modern health care conversation. As telemedicine technologies and applications continue to develop and evolve must develop necessary policy recommendations on the practice and reimbursement of telemedicine to control the healthcare cost.
Give one or two examples of cost-effective practice initiatives created as a result of these guidelines over the last 10 years. In what ways have these initiatives been evaluated? What have the results been? How do ethics play a role in these recommendations?
The current organization, management, and regulation of health care delivery provide few incentives for the use or development of systems-engineering tools. Current reimbursement practices, regulatory frameworks, and the lack of support for research have all discouraged the development, adaptation, and use of systems-engineering tools. Private insurers, large employers, and public payers, including the Federal Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services and state Medicaid programs, should provide more incentives for health care providers to use systems tools to improve the quality of care and the efficiency of care delivery (Agarwal et al., 2017). Reimbursement systems, both private and public, should expand the scope of reimbursement for care episodes or use other bundling techniques to encourage the use of systems-engineering tools.
It’s increasingly important to operate technology under principles that benefit society and avoid issues with bias, fairness, transparency, and explainability. To address these issues, we’ve seen tech industry players establish advisory panels, guiding principles, and the sponsoring of academic programs (Rowe et al., 2018) A growing potential for government action and regulation, such as the EU’s proposed Artificial Intelligence Act and recent statements from the Federal Trade Commission in the United States.
