Global Issues Research Proposal
1. Introduction - Here is where you will state the purpose of your study: Specific topic for research, WHY it is important, and your THESIS statement (based on what you expect to find from the proposed research.
2. Literature Review - This part should be 2 to 3 pages long. This is where the main part of your substantive outline goes and you talk about what research has already been done on your subject, narrowing it to the focus you propose to take. What are the dominant debates on it? What are the approaches? What has already been done? What gap is there in the existing knowledge on it? ...for instance.
3. Your Research Question goes here. What you propose to try to find out.
4. Methodological Design: What is the plan??? HOW would you do it? How LONG will it take to collect the data you need? What data is that? Does it already exist or would you have to collect the data yourself? THINK ABOUT THIS AND TRY TO COME UP WITH ANSWERS TO THESE QUESTIONS.
5. Reference List: here you will put at least 4 references that are PRIMARY sources. You will NOT use Wikipedia or other such secondary sources. News articles are not primary sources.
Use APA style or APSA (American Political Science Association) style for both your in-text citation AND for your reference list.
I WILL count off if you have not made an effort to properly list your references at the end.
I WILL count off and possibly give entire letter grades lower if you fail to cite your sources AS USED in the body of your proposal!
LOOK UP APA and APSA style if you do not know how to do this! Look at the portion of my human rights paper I posted to see how it is done. You MUST do this!
