How to score on Tinder

This article is a guide to making an impact on the increasingly popular dating/hook-up site Tinder.

Key Points

· Get a good profile picture

· Get creative

· Have a unique and original tagline

· Be honest

· Come up with a thoughtful and unique opening line

Get the matches rolling in.

Get a good profile picture

This is a bit of a no brainer. Choose a profile picture which highlights you in a good way. Your picture is the first thing people will see, before they even read your incredibly witty bio, or find out you’re a multimillionaire. First impressions count so here are a few do’s and don’ts when it comes to choosing a profile picture

Do

· Smile – It’s a well-known fact that smiling makes you look more attractive, fun and friendlier.

· Choose a photo with a landmark in it – travelled the world? A photo with you looking good outside the Colosseum can be a great conversation started.

· Take your time – Remember, this is a first impression. Take the time to get it right and show yourself at your best. Choose a photo where you are dressed well, well-groomed and looking your best.

Don’t

· Go for a topless photo – Sometimes this can work, but the vast majority of people will be put off by seeing a topless photo straight off the bat.

· Choose a picture of you in a group - A group picture may show your sociable side, but how is anyone meant to know which one in a group YOU are?

· Choose a picture in sunglasses and a hat – What do you look like! Do you have hair? Nice eyes? Are you hot? Wearing sunglasses and a hat in your profile picture is a sure way of getting someone to swipe left.

Get creative

Tinder is now one of the most popular dating apps available on the market, and so unfortunately that means there’s a lot of competition out there when it comes to hooking up. Therefore you need to stand out from the crowd.

Show your funny side

Humour is sexy! Simple as that. If you can get someone who will potentially match with you to stop and think twice about your profile, you’re way more likely to get a match than a generic and boring profile like everyone else’s.

Keep it simple

According to research, around 70% of your profile should be focused on you. This doesn’t however mean you need to write a dissertation on yourself! Keep it simple:

· Who you are

· Where you’re from

· Your age

· Your interests

· Why they should swipe right!

This is all basic stuff, but it’s how you put this across that really matters. Simply listing your age, sex and location is pretty boring! Jazz it up a little, show that humorous side and get people to think about your profile. Stand out from the crowd.

Don’t make it all about you

70% of your profile should be about you, but the other 30% should be about what you’re looking for. Again, make this a little bit different to “someone to take long walks on the beach with”. It’s boring and will more than likely mean people scroll right past you. Something more original such as “looking for a fellow partner in crime” stands out a little more and shows more personality.

Have a unique tagline

Along with your profile picture, your tagline will probably be the next thing that people see. Therefore it needs to show who you are, be eye-catching and a little different to the millions of other Tinder profiles out there. Be amusing, a little cheeky and get the fingers swiping right when it’s combined with your awesome profile picture!

Be honest

No matter what you hope to get from Tinder, be it a one night stand or a long term relationship, you have to be honest. There’s nothing worse than chatting with someone over Tinder, learning about them and your common interests, arranging to meet up and finding they look nothing like their profile picture! Not a great start. Don’t lie or exaggerate stats such as height or weight, it’ll be found out if you ever get to meet which is the main aim of Tinder! Just be honest, make your profile stand out and paint yourself in the best light possible.

Come up with a thoughtful and unique opening line

You’re doing great. Your profile picture makes you look good, your tagline is witty and unique and your profile is simple yet effective. You get the match of your dreams and it’s time for your opening message…. “Hey, how’s it going”.

Wow… a brilliant photo, profile and tagline and this is what you start with? There’s no bigger turn off than someone who opens with a boring, generic and can’t be bothered conversation opener such as “how’s it going”. Your opening line needs to lead on to conversation, and spark an interest and show you are interested!

Have you read their profile? Pick out a detail from it and ask them about it. It shows you have read their profile and thought about what you’re going to say to them. Don’t go for the cheesy chat up lines as 99% of the time they won’t work and are old and boring now.

Read their profile, pick out a detail you have in common and start talking. It really is as simple as that.

Navigating the world of Tinder is not an easy task and takes some time and thought. More and more people are joining Tinder every day, meaning it’s even more difficult to stand out from the crowd. We can guarantee that with a good profile picture, a strong tagline and a unique bio, you’ll be getting matches and getting success with Tinder, provided you don’t mess it all up with your opening line! Have fun, be honest and good luck scoring on Tinder.
