Essay Assignment Requirements

· Typed and double-spaced text (MLA format)

· Length: 500-1250 words (2-5 typed pages, not including the works cited page)

· A thesis statement that goes beyond a summary of the subject.

· Incorporate a brief summary of the work

· Use at least three points to evaluate the author's text

· Use at least two quotations from the author's work to support or clarify an assertion

· Do not use second person pronouns (you and your)

· Limit the use of first person pronouns (I, me, my, mine, we, our, etc.)

· Do not use contractions (adopt a formal tone)

· Use in-text citations and provide a works cited page (essays without complete documentation will automatically receive a grade of "NC."). You are required to document the page numbers from the course textbook for each direct quotation.

· The works cited page should list the essay from our textbook.
