SECTION AA

The plan of a house is shown above with its foundation height being 10ft in length. To build the foundation, the top soil is first stripped 4’ deep over the area covering the entire floor area and extending to the point where the downward sloping edge begins at the left side which is some distance from the outer face of the foundation wall section. The foundation is then dug 6’ deep at an angle of repose shown. Calculate the volume of soil dug out to;

a. remove the top soil (5 points)

b. erect the foundation (6 points)

(Assume the swell factor is 1.25 and give your answers in cubic yards).

c. The soil dug out is to be hauled 100 miles away with a 120CY capacity truck.

I. Determine the total number of truck loads (or trips) needed to remove the soil out of the site completely (4 points)

II. If the cost of hiring the truck is $1.02 per mile, the loader of the soil into the truck is paid

$60 per load, and that the truck driver is paid $350 per trip, calculate the total cost of removing the soil offsite (5 points)
