As risk is defined as any exposer to any harm, danger or loss perhaps unexpectedly, risk can take place within any industry. More specifically, risk management in health care can be the determining factor between life and death. In some regards, risk management in health care can be considered to be more important than other industries. Because risk management consist of many aspects such as the clinical side, administration, monitoring, assessing, and preventing risk; these concepts permit for health care organizations to ensure that patient’s safety is top priority ("What Is Risk Management in Healthcare?", 2018). In health care, risks can comprise of equipment malfunction, medical malpractice, and even misdiagnosis. For example, mishandling patients’ medical records can cause for a physician to misdiagnose a patient which can lead to further issues. Managing risks is imperative within the health care industry not only to keep people safe and secure, but also to keep costs down. Once risk management strategies are put into place, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other health care organizations can minimize the potential for loss.

Risk management concepts have influenced the healthcare industry tremendously in a variety of ways. Risk management is an important concept that needs to be understood by healthcare workers and managers because it can affect the entire medical staff and the patients. Having the proper understanding, knowledge, and education on risk management can help health care managers prepare, prevent and navigate through any sort of errors that could occur that might affect the healthcare practice. Using standards of practice and following protocols will help health care facilities decrease the risks that could potentially occur. A important example of preventing needing risk management in a health care office would be as a health care manager, would be to ensure that your staff is educated and up to date on current training regarding HIPAA. As a health care manager in my future career, it will be my job to make sure that my staff is fully trained and educated on the importance of HIPAA. Ensuring that the patients personal and medical information is being handled with extreme care and privacy.
