1. Write about the work of any three architects we discussed in class – your favorites, or perhaps the one(s) you hated. For each architect, write about at least three of their buildings, and why they impressed you.  (That means you will be writing about a minimum of nine different buildings!)  Talk about why their buildings became important:  did they influence the work of other architects?  Did they reflect changes in society, either by recording the change or by being part of the change?  Then compare the work of the three architects, and in your own words evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each.  Lastly, write a paragraph, relating to your major, about this class.  Will it ever be helpful to you in the future?  What was the most important thing you learned?

2. War causes societies to change, and art changes with them. What changes occurred in architecture because of the First World War and the Second World War?  For each war, describe what happened in Europe and the United States; also write about what happened in Japan after World War II.  What  movements  happened after wars?  Describe at least three.  Use at least five examples of buildings we talked about in class, and from the text;   talk about the architects, and what their philosophies were as they designed into a different world.  Lastly, write a paragraph, relating to your major, about this class.  Will it ever be helpful to you in the future?  What was the most important thing you learned?

3. Movements in art and history: Describe the following architectural movements:  City Beautiful, Prairie Style, Art Nouveau, de Stijl, Deutsche Werkbund, Bauhaus, International Style, Art Deco, Mid-Century (Post-WW II) Modernism, Brutalism and Postmodernism ( at least two or three sentences each! ).  Discuss the progression of one movement to the next in the context of world history, and cite the work of at least one architect for each movement.  Which was your favorite movement?  Lastly, write a paragraph, relating to your major, about this class.  Will it ever be helpful to you in the future?  What was the most important thing you learned?
