After careful consideration and review, answer one of the following four questions thoroughly and completely (take care, there are multiple parts to each). For your answer, you are expected to draw from lectures, the textbook, historical documents, class discussions, and your own research and knowledge (as appropriate). Moreover, your answer should contain details and evidence (as appropriate) that may, depending on what you choose, cover an extensive portion of this course’s timeline. Your answer must be coherent, logical, and factually correct. There should be facts, analysis of those facts, and using those facts to assemble a cogent argument. Think of yourself as an attorney in a courtroom, and I am the jury. Using facts, interpretation of facts, and argument, you need to convince me of the efficacy of your case. Minor grammatical and spelling errors will not detract from your grade, but should be kept to a minimum. There is no length requirement, per se. I don’t care about quantity, I care about quality, though answers that are too short will certainly lack the quality analysis that this final demands. So if you focus on a quality answer, the length will take care of itself. This final exam must be typed, double- spaced, and have 1" margins. This final exam is due NO LATER than August 6th, 2020 at 11:59pm. Due to admin constraints, no late final exam can be accepted. Course grades will generally be available from the school 2 weeks after the date of the final. It will take me about that long to read everything, and get the grade entered. QUESTION 1 (The War of 1812) The War of 1812 officially began in June of 1812 when Congress declared war on the United Kingdom. The war ended two years later in December of 1814 with the signing of the Treaty of Ghent, in Ghent, Belgium. Using historical facts to back your case, explain the following in detail (be thorough, detailed, and comprehensive): A)  Causes: The reasoning and the politics that were the driving forces behind the decision by Madison to ask for, and for Congress to grant a declaration of war.
 B)  Effects: What were the net results of the war for America? What did America directly and indirectly achieve for itself from 1814 forward?
 C)  What If: What would have been the consequences if there was no declaration of war? Realistically, how would the British have reacted, and how would they continue to behave?
QUESTION 2 (The Constitutional Debates) During the Constitutional Convention, and the resulting ratification debates in each of the State Legislatures, two political camps emerged: The Federalists and the Anti- Federalists. For the Federalists, consider the Federalist Papers and arguments from Alexander Hamilton, Daniel Webster, and James Madison. For the Anti-Federalist position, consider the Anti-Federalist Papers such as The Farmer or Brutus and arguments from Patrick Henry and others. In a well organized, detailed, and factual answer, explain who had the better argument, and why. Would you have supported ratification in your State Legislature? page1image541561264.png ¬ page1image541561456.png ¬ page1image541561712.png ¬ page1image541561968.png ¬ page1image541655904.png ¬ QUESTION 3 (Federalists versus Democratic Republicans) page2image544855840.png ¬ America’s first experience with political parties came in the 1790s with the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. Both parties embodied different ideals, political tactics, objectives, personalities, and visions for America. The depth of these differences could be found in each party’s stance on policy issues of the time: 1)  Whiskey Rebellion
 2)  British Impressments
 3)  British and French War
 4)  National Bank
 5) Jay Treaty
6) Louisiana Purchase 7) French Revolution 8) XYZ Affair 9) Barbary Pirates
10) Federal Taxes
11) Alien + Sedition Acts
12) Kentucky+Virginia Resolves Choose three (3) of these issues. Using historical facts and your interpretation of history to bolster your argument, write a persuasive answer which addresses the following: (not necessarily in order) A)  The position of each of the parties on your three issues
 B)  The Politics behind those positions
 C)  The tactics each party used to advance their agenda on each issue
 D)  How each party’s agenda manifested themselves into public policy for
each issue.
QUESTION 4 (Importance of Economics in US History) Throughout this US History course, you have learned how economics (and governmental economic policies) have shaped the United States. Whether it was the price of cotton or beef, tax policy, slavery, international trade, industrialization, innovation, western expansion, transportation, land-policy, banking, money supply, or a thousand other factors, it is arguably economics that has done more to charter the course of US History than any other factor. Choose any historically significant economic- related factor within the timeline of this course that interests you a)  Completely chronicle and describe the economic-related factor in detail. What was it and what are the details? What did it do, and what were the results? What was the public reaction to it? Was the US Government involved, and how so? Why was it important to the nation?
 b)  Completely Chronicle and describe in detail the effects this economic factor had on America (politically, socially, and economically). How did politics intersect and interfere with this economic factor? Did politicians demagogue it, and did they modify it? How did the United States change because of this economic factor? Was it a positive factor, or a negative one in your opinion, and why?
