A Place to Eat

Everyone, it seems, has a favorite place to eat. For some, it is a fast-food restaurant like McDonald’s, Burger King or Taco Bell. Or it may be a diner like Denny’s or an ethnic restaurant like El Torito, Panda Inn, or Olive Garden. It may be a restaurant that serves large portions like Hometown Buffet or Claim-Jumpers or that serves specialized food like Red Lobster or Ruth’s Chris Steak House. It may be a fancy restaurant like l’Orange or a small, independently-owned café. It may be a place such as Benihana’s known for its atmosphere. Or it may be eating at home or a friend or relative’s house. We like these places for many reasons including the type of food served, the decorations and setting, the atmosphere, the music or entertainment available, or even the price of the food.

Please discuss your favorite place to eat. Be sure to describe the location and explain why you enjoy eating there. Use examples and details to support your reasons. My favorite place to take meals is at McDonald’s. I would like to take food at McDonald located in New York. I would like to take Triple breakfast Stacks McMuffin and Double Bacon Smokehouse Burger to take home and filet and fish. The reason why I take food at Mc Donald is because I exactly know what I can obtain and it is the same as what I can get globally. McDonalds has always saved me from angry moments. When I travel I normally stop at the McDonald when it’s a new country. I also go to Mc Donald to learn about local culinary customs. For example in the United states the menu is better fit for US lobsters in Maine .In Vienna a traveler can find Emmentaler cheese with cranberry sauce. McDonalds is fantastic due to the local culture and fun and learning what people love most. I also choose Mc Donald when I need a quick chap lunch that fits my bill. Their fries and Big Macs are also tasty. Mc Donald is a lo a place where you can take family and the messy, noisy and little, this fosters customer loyalty There is also a wide variety on their menu that is a good idea for family who do not want to eat the same food. Mc Donald is also conveniently located, one can take a road trip and stop for food and a bathroom break, it is located close to an exit.

What Makes a Hero?

After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, it seems that our concept of heroism has changed. Where before we might talk about famous athletes, rock stars, and actors, now we are thinking about ordinary people such as firemen and policemen risking their own lives to save others. We are thinking about workers in the World Trade Center who helped disabled people down flights and flights of stairs rather than escaping them. We are thinking about the passengers on United Flight 93, who decided to attack the hijackers and prevent their airplane from being used to attack others. As the Chronicle of Higher Education put it, we are talking about "ordinary people doing extraordinary things."

In a well-organized essay, answer the following question:

In your opinion, what makes a hero? In answering this question you may want to discuss how your attitudes toward heroism have changed over time, and what people and events have influenced you. Support your ideas with specific experiences in your own life or that you have experienced through television, movies, books, or other media.

In my opinion a hero is a person who saves life’s and stuff. A hero is also a selfless, genuine good person and someone who causes change. It is also somebody who is willing to risk their own life for the sake of other people. They also go above and beyond the terms of call of duty, they perform extra ordinary things. Eros also reminds me of those who rushed into burning World Trade Center September 11th.Also those who defend our nation. It is also someone who I look upon. It is also a person who does something they fear but are brave enough to still do the thing. For example Batman and Iron Man, It is also someone who can be looked upon due to their heroic actions .Bravery is there trait, a hero is a person who has overcome obstacles and has survived for them to rescue others. My attitudes towards heroism have changed overtime because I used to view them as extraordinary people. Through events such a rescuing people from fire, another example is rescuing individuals from a collapsed building, this instances requires courage. Additionally, Hollywood’s is a champion in making heroes ,people in the United States can come out and announce themselves as gay right activists from the 200 movie known as ‘Milk”. Mostly Heroic actions go unnoticed. Heroes are also competent and confident. It takes skill and self confidence to go to where others fear tread. Research indicates that individuals who perform heroic acts feel confident in themselves and their abilities. When a hero is faced with an intrinsic belief they are capable of handling the challenge and achieving success no matter the challenges. Heroes also have a strong, moral compass they have qualities that differentiate them for non heroes, they also live by their values and ensure that they take risk to protect those values. Their values and personal beliefs provide them with courage and resolve to endure risk and even adhere to those principles. They also have useful skills and strengths, having the training of physical ability to deal with a crisis.

Are Textbooks Too Expensive?

According to a recent New York Times editorial, the State of Washington has passed a law requiring textbook companies to disclose prices and other relevant information to professors when they market the books to them. The editorial states, “Lawmakers hope that professors who learn the costs upfront will opt for reasonably priced textbooks that cashstrapped students can afford.” It also describes the online “Connexions” system at Rice University, which allows textbooks from a consortium of writers to be used online for free, and printed out for one-fifth the cost of a regular textbook. The writer argues that other universities should “follow Rice’s creative lead.”

Do you find that textbooks are too expensive? Do you think that the measures described in the editorial will help? In a wellorganized essay, propose at least one solution to the problem of expensive textbooks. In supporting your argument, you may want to describe your experiences buying textbooks for university classes and explain how your solution or solutions would help solve the problem.

Yes I find textbooks too expensive, this is because most professors assign specific editions, hence driving up prices without the fear of market competitors. Mostly, professors are not aware of the cost of the books they assign students. Professors assign books without simply choosing the cost effective books they choose the ones that they prefer to choose additionally, new editions hardly warrant the spike, course contents also changes per semester. In medical and scientific fields where information is constantly changing textbooks are rewritten and update to reflect knowledge. The parties forces publishers to charade students more. For example in my junior year I used an older edition but during the past semesters my lecturer assigned a new version and this made me spend more $200 dollars. To increase their profits this publishers will often charge higher bundle textbooks the add-on provide another excuse for charging higher prices. I think the measures described in the editorial will help in reduction of this prices because regulations will ensure that lecturers advice students on books that can be cheaper to obtain in the market. Allowing free accessibility of textbooks through online is also essential for most students since they will only require using data bundles. For example during this semester I spent about $400 o textbooks for my classes and most of them were rented. It is unfair that students spend month’s worth of rent money on books that are rarely used in class. To solve the problems text books should be accessed through the internet for free, and if the books have to be sold it should be affordable by students.
