Psychology 600
Hello ITW Staff!
As your company is going under new management and policies are changing, I am fulfilling the duties of an industrial organizational (I/O) psychologist and interviewing employees of ITW. It is my job to ensure that problems are solved in the workplace and improve the quality of life through studying human behavior in the workplace. I will be evaluating the “Work from Home” policy to determine if the policy has increased production. I am determined to increase the moral and personality of the company!
To increase the morale and personality, I will be interviewing employees and supervisors on the values and limits of the policy. I will be using the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologist and the Code of Conduct as guidelines in this study. As a psychologist, I will strive to benefit those with whom I work with and take care to do no harm. I will safeguard the welfare and rights of those whom I interact professionally and other affected persons. I will establish relationships of trust with those I interact with. I will promote accuracy, honesty and truthfulness in the science, teaching and practice of psychology. I recognize that fairness and justice entitle all persons to access to and benefit from the contributions of psychology. I will respect the dignity and worth of all people and the rights of individuals to privacy, confidentiality and self-determination.
In accordance with the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct, in section 3.11 Psychological Services Delivered to or Through Organizations, this principle states psychologists delivering services to or through organizations provide information beforehand to clients and when appropriate those directly affected by the services about (1) the nature and objectives of the services, (2) the intended recipients, (3) which of the individuals are clients, (4) the relationship the psychologist will have with each person and the organization, (5) the probable uses of services provided and information obtained, (6) who will have access to the information, and (7) limits of confidentiality. As soon as feasible, they provide information about the results and conclusions of such services to appropriate persons (APA, 2010). Once committed to this study, each participant will become a client. I will develop a trust based and professional relationship with each client and gather information. The information obtained in this study will not be accessible to anyone and names will be kept confidential. It is my job to evaluate the information given and disseminate it across the board to build a stronger company.
The benefits and standards of working from home consist of trusting your employees and allowing flexible schedules. Also working from home it is easier to not pick favorites. It may take longer to implement a department-wide work-from-home strategy but the workplace can be much stronger and happier. By working from home weekly meetings are be scheduled to go over the needs of the company and to allow employees to put their input in. Additionally, employees are equipped with the right tools and equipment to be effective to communicate and to be successful. However, not everything about work from home is positive. I am interested in learning the problematic situations each individual encounters with the policy and work program.
Normally, in my job position as an industrial organizational psychologist, I develop job descriptions and hiring criteria. I also create advertisement materials. In my job role I also help train employees and to teach strong management styles and to enhance problem solving abilities. An important role as an industrial and organizational psychologist is to maintain a mentally and physical healthy workforce; which prevents any harm from any employees or clients. I am always looking for ways to help employees work more effectively and efficiently.
In my role as an industrial and organizational psychologist, I will be evaluating and assisting the company in the productivity of the work-from-home policy. I have an open door policy and can be contacted at any time with concerns or issues via email, phone or meeting in person. I will ensure they are addressed and solved in a timely manner. It is my duty to protect all employee’s rights, privacy and confidentiality.
In this study, I will be reviewing employee’s records and access work performance. I'm going to use small focus groups which is a group interview conducted by myself. Each group will consist of 4 to 6 participants, allowing each individual to participate and respond in natural conversation/discussion with each other. This is an organized discussion with a selective group of individuals. I will be collecting initial information on ages and years of service in this company to determine how I preselect for groups. I will ensure that everybody's confidentiality is protected. Each participant will sign a confidentiality statement which will state that each participant will not reveal or tell anyone outside of the group the identity of others or what they said. For those not comfortable with focus groups, I would be more than happy to schedule individual interviews. Sign up on the schedule attached at your earliest convenience and call my number below to see if that spot is available.
