Question 1
Research the Internet and locate an article(s) that discusses factors to project success or failure. Identify 2-3 factors and elaborate on them to your peers. Note don't just copy and paste - synthesis into your own words.
Answer:
A project success is when a project achieves all the goals and objectives that were pre-defined within the allocated time and within the allocated budget. There are several factors that affect the project success or failure.
a. Preparation and Planning: Before even starting any project, it is very crucial to have a well-defined project plan laid out. This helps to check whether the project is on track or not at any point of time.
b. Leadership: It is very vital to select the best team and leadership. Every project requires a leader that leads the project and at all the times identifies the opportunities to guide the project in the correct direction to achieve project success.
c. Knowledge: This plays a very important role in any project. Appropriate knowledge and experience always help to make decisions that ensure project success. The team-members that are highly knowledgeable and experienced share the same enthusiasm to steer the project towards success.
Question 2
Based on what you learned from the week introduction, PMI journal article, and other research, how would you define the main purpose of monitoring and controlling a project?
Answer:
According to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), “the Monitoring and Control Process Group consists of those processes performed to observe project execution so that potential problems can be identified in a timely manner and corrective action can be taken, when necessary, to control the execution of the project.”
Project Monitoring and Control activities are carried out in parallel with the actual execution of the project. This ensures that as the project is being executed, it is simultaneously being monitored and controlled by proper supervision and implementing corrective actions as and when necessary. The main objective of project monitoring and control is to be precautious and proactive and help identify issues ahead of time and take the necessary corrective actions.
