Concepts of Nursing Leadership
The following principles guide nursing leadership:
Clinical Excellence: Nursing leaders prioritize delivering safe, effective, compassionate care that meets the highest patient safety standards.
Collaborative Partnership: Nursing leadership involves healthcare personnel collaborating to promote interdisciplinary teamwork and achieve shared goals (Yoost & Crawford, 2021).
Strategic Planning and Decision-Making: Nursing leaders participate in strategic planning and decision-making that positively impacts patient care outcomes.
Professional Development: This involves providing mentorship, coaching, and opportunities for continuous education and skill development (Miles & Scott, 2019).

Problems
Staffing shortages and burnout among nurses
Resistance to change within healthcare organizations
Communication breakdowns between nursing and management
If nurse leader is not transformational, then it can lead to resistance to change due to lack of influence or allowing nurses to practice at top of their license, trust…retention..hence nurses leave causing a nursing shortage.
7
Purpose/Goal – Advocating for Transformational Leadership Style
To improve patient outcomes and experiences by promoting evidence-based practices, fostering a safety culture, and ensuring compassionate care delivery.
To support and empower nurses to perform at their best by providing leadership, resources, and professional growth and development opportunities.
To advance organizational goals for patient safety, clinical quality, and financial sustainability through effective management and strategic decision-making.
Is this the purpose of the leader? Or are you looking at purpose of having a transformational leadership style?
8
Implementation of Nursing Leadership/Strategy
To implement nursing leadership effectively in healthcare settings, consider the following strategies:
Foster a culture of shared governance and empowerment among nursing staff.
Provide leadership development programs and mentorship opportunities.
Utilize data-driven decision-making to inform nursing leadership practices (Pruinelli, 2021).
Establish clear communication channels and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Are these HHS opportunities? Any specific examples to share with audience?
9
Suggestions (Evidence-Based Practices)
Promote transformational leadership styles (Durmuş & Kırca, 2019).
Encourage participative decision-making and shared accountability.
Implement regular performance evaluations and feedback mechanisms
Emphasize continuous learning and professional development.
Recommendations (Moving Forward)
Adopting a mentorship program for aspiring nursing leaders
Implementing interdisciplinary rounds to improve communication and collaboration
Supporting research initiatives on nursing leadership effectiveness
Re-energizing staff engagement through recognition programs and wellness initiatives
Measuring outcomes through patient satisfaction surveys, staff turnover rates, and clinical quality indicators.
Looks like you are recommending nursing leadership hired into organizations should take on a transformational leadership style and with those leaders who maybe don’t have these qualities, you want HHS to offer mentoring opportunities and you want the leaders to truly adopt shared governance structure. IF this is the case, when it comes to your “problem” statement, it may be more so centered around Retention, nurse satisfaction, nurse not feeling like they own their practice.
I suggest you put in some slide pertaining to data - % of staff who leave due to leadership
Data on current retention of units (it’s actually high right now) but you could do a quick query or survey of what staff feel they need from their leader and what staff feel will deter them from staying. You may also want to add barriers slide and/or advantages to having this style(s) of leaders.
