MGT 340 Group Project- Management Handbook

Keep it short and to the point (easy to follow). Be sure that the average person will understand the

terms that are used (if not define them). Use ACITVE voice (see examples on next page). Consider

how you will organize your material (tabs, table of contents, or changes in type/style of font).

*** Use this outline to organize your guide information before formatting it or to assign tasks***

The topics and instruction areas (or sub-topics) can be WHATEVER your team chooses as related to

what we have discussed in class.

You will create steps associated with DOING the items that you have created as your instructional

areas. You are telling people how to perform these management tasks. As you are writing and wording

these steps think to yourself, "If I knew NOTHING about management, would this make sense and be

easy to follow?"

Separate “Extra Information” with Icons:

This is information that might not be a “step” that someone is doing but that is important for them to

know. Use any icons you might like but keep them as universal as possible. For example:

Warning! Do NOT Ideas Helpful Hints

**Any others your team comes up with or needs!

Active VS Passive Voice:

Be sure to write your directions in clear, active voice. If you need more help with active voice here is a

good video: https://youtu.be/TZd7rDVNi58

And here are some examples:

Beautiful giraffes roam the savannah. (active)

The savannah is roamed by beautiful giraffes. (passive)

Sue changed the flat tire. (active)

The flat tire was changed by Sue. (passive)

We are going to watch a movie tonight. (active)

A movie is going to be watched by us tonight. (passive)

Presentation of Materials:

The way your handbook LOOKS and is ORGANIZED, counts! The whole idea behind this assignment is to

get you started thinking about how to present information to people in an easy to read and

understandable way (the way managers should always present information). We do this by breaking

down complex topics and adding things like images and other organizational features. Adding in

RELATED images and other information creates a handbook that people want to read! As your team is

creating the handbook keep in mind:

• Is it easy to find the information you are looking for?

• Have you used graphics and other visual aids effectively? Do they match the content?

• Is the handbook engaging to the reader?

• Does the design make it easy to learn or does it hinder understanding?
