Hamlet review

Vengeance is the greatest enemy, not to oneself but it can hurt the ones closest to us. The Story of hamlet is one such as this, where a young prince full of potential falls to despair and vengeance loosing himself and everyone around him bringing grief and sorrow to the country of Denmark.

The novel Hamlet by William shake spear is a tragic novel. The version NO FEAR SHAKESPEARE Published by spark notes is a graphic novel, the art l illustrated by Niel Babra. It is speculated that Shake Spear was inspired by a tale of Danes around 1200 AD and then began to make it his own after that. The Book begins in the middle of the night where there are guards on duty. The guards spot a ghost on duty which looks like the former deceased king of Denmark. One of the guards Horatio went to tell him, on the way to tell his friend we are introduced to the new king of Denmark Claudius and Uncle to Hamlet and the queen of Denmark and mother to Hamlet Gertrude. Then we are finally introduced to Hamlet who is still grieving on the loss of his father. Meanwhile the king the is talking with Polonius the lord chamberlain who is the father of Ophelia who is in love with Hamlet and his son Laetres. They are discussing about Fortnibras son of the former king of Norway and the lands he lost. While that happened hamlet stayed awake into the night and talked to the ghost his father revealing his killer.

The story of Hamlet gave me such highs and lows, the story of a boy who desires revenge for his king and beloved father at the hands of his treasonous uncles, reminds you of the beginning of an Epic story but however is more realistic. Instead of the hero overcoming and defeating his uncle the boy is consumed with a lust of vengeance which does not only brings destruction to himself but to everyone around him and the ones he loves dear. Though it has a few weaknesses such as the ghost of his father, yes it brings a supernatural aspect to it wouldn’t it have been more realistic for it to have been a dream and the death of Ophelia felt a bit too sudden (at least for me).

Hamlet by shakes spear as a graphic Novel works very well, as graphic novel it works well for people who do not read a lot and the artwork gives the impression that it is fun to read will keep the reader entertained from the beginning to the end of the book. Though it does not let the reader picture or imagine the events for themselves it is still pleasing to read especially those who do not read and reading while looking at good artwork keeps a reader intrigued and wanting more.

Hamlet is a tragic story that also consists Aristotle explanation of tragedy. The first one is a hero of noble stature; Hamlet is a hero of noble stature the prince of Denmark adored by the people. He is not an ordinary man, he is a symbol of goodness, virtue and fortune. When the hero falls or goes mad it arouses fear and pity to does around him and sometimes even himself. Second the fall of the hero is his own fault; the fall of hamlet was of his own free choice he was though he just wanted to avenge his father he destroyed himself and went mad in the process. The downfall of the hero as tragic as it is pathetic. Finally, the final one is that the hero’s punishment is never wholly deserved. Hamlet only wanted to bring justice to his father when no one else would have done it. What impresses us is that is not the weakness of the hero but his greatness, well you can debate that in Hamlets position but neither the less he fits this tragic characteristic.

My overall recommendation of the book is this, it is not for those for the lighthearted and people who like a happy ending it is realistic and a tragedy was nevertheless an amazing novel and one that will have you thinking what will happen next and I highly recommend it (the graphic novel I mean).
