Great leaders are of composed of a variety of characteristics that help them become successful in leading a team; However, identifying a leadership style that is compatible with the environment and those that work within, is equally important in. I believe that I most identify with Transformational leadership because it focuses on the development of employees. According to Bass (author of Leadership and Performance Beyond Expectations), transformational leaders are a model of integrity and fairness, set clear goals, set high expectations, is supportive and encouraging, provides recognition, awakens the emotions of others, engages people to think beyond self-interest, and inspires others to reach for the improbable, (Bass, 1985).
The healthcare industry is a fast-paced environment that can evolve from one day to the next. Advancements in technology are requiring leaders to become more innovative and tech savvy as they address the culture shift of a younger generation workforce. As an administrator, I would incorporate my skills by first conducting a thorough analysis of the environment- the ethics, morale, processes, and staff. Next, I would create a vision that aligns with the organization's mission and objectives and explore the ways in which the team can contribute to it. I would motivate and inspire staff by consistently encouraging their efforts while motivating them to deliver their best. It is also important to collect feedback and communicate results often, including recognizing those who go above and beyond in their positions, this can occur during staff meetings or in organization-wide recognition programs. Managing the vision helps the team keep objectives in sight; To do this effectively, I will ensure each person understands their roles and responsibilities in achieving their goals and be supportive by staying connected in daily activities. Lastly, and perhaps the most important step, is staying in tune with my employee's developmental needs; Providing them one-on-one feedback of what they excel at and provide them resources to strengthen their weaknesses. Doing this help staff build character, focus on their career goals, and perhaps become future leaders themselves.

This week I researched different types of leadership styles and found there are several types out there. There are actually two that suits me, if combined into one- Democratic and Bureaucratic. Democratic leadership, also know as participative leadership, mean leaders often ask for input from team members before making a final decision. Bureaucratic leadership is based upon fixed official duties under a hierarchy of authority, applying a system of rules for management and decision-making. (Study.com) For me I chose both leadership types because I would want the input from my employees and opinions as to their thoughts about the skills and how they would be affected by them. I would also have a set of rules that would have to be followed, in order for the healthcare environment to run smoothly. So in other words I would ask how would they feel about the skills incorporated before I would set them in stone by making any adjustments by adding and removing anything that would compromise the ethics of our program.
