Force and Slope Deflection Method
Problem: for the uniform beam below, A, C and D are roller supported and F is pin connected to the wall. The beam is subjected to concentrated loads of 20 kN at point B and 40 kN at point E.
Part a: use the force method to solve the reaction forces at A, C, D and F, and the moment diagram. (25%) Part b: use the slope deflection method to solve the reaction forces at A, C, D and F, and the moment diagram (25%) Part c: after you get consistent moment diagram from part a and b, proceed to use the virtual work method to solve the rotation at A; (20%, you can use either the force method or slope deflection method to solve the moment diagram of the virtual system) Part d: Assume E=29,000 ksi and W24x84 for the beam, use SAP2000 to analyze the beam for reaction forces, moment diagram, and beam deflection. (20%) Part e: compare results in part d with those from part a, b and c; comment on possible differences in reaction forces, moment diagram and beam deflection (10%). Project Report Requirements: 1) Print your results clearly! Both electronic and printed copies are required and due on 5pm of due date.
2) Project report must have the signatures of all group members! Otherwise, it will be declined.
3) The comparison should be presented in a tabulated way. 4) Prints from SAP2000 should be clear and clean.
