Group Panel Presentation

This is the final project for Com 102. Your instructor has assigned you a group and a topic to work with for this presentation. There will be up to 4 group presentations which will cover the following topics: Workplace Gossip, Sexual Harassment in the Workplace, Workplace Bullying and Workplace Discrimination. Your group is assigned to present on one of these topics. The first two groups will present on the first day of presentations and the last two groups will present the second day of presentations. Refer to your schedule on Blackboard for the date your group is presenting.

Your group, topic, and presentation date are non-negotiable.

Presentation parameters (100 points) :

· Target time: 20 minutes (for the entire group)

· Acceptable time without incurring penalties: 17 – 22 minutes

· Follow the Outline Template to organize your presentation!

· Based on the topic your group is presenting, your group should choose the 3 key ideas you want your audience to know about the topic

· That means you need to research the topic! There is not a chapter in your textbook about your topic. You need to go to academic journals and other online sources for information.

· Make sure to assess the credibility of sources that you use!

· You should use a mix of academic journal articles, books, and online articles.

· Cite at least 1 source per group member (so if your group has 6 people, cite at least 6 sources)

· All of the topics have substantial information available about them. You will not have trouble finding sources… the key is to use GOOD sources! (i.e. credible, valid – the information can be verified other places, and recent!)

· You need to verbally cite sources during the presentation (like you did for your Shark Tank Pitch).

· You will also turn in a complete reference page with your formal outline.

· You are NOT PERMITTED to use Power Point (or Prezi or any other similar type of visual aid). This presentation is based on your ability to verbally and nonverbally deliver an effective message.

· You may use video clips. They should total no more than 2 minutes of the presentation time. Video clips need to be relevant to the topic. They should be explained and integrated into the presentation.

· Adapt your topic and presentation to your audience! What about the topic is most relevant to your audience of college students?

· This is a Panel Presentation. You will present your particular area of expertise on the topic, as your group has researched it.

· Your group needs to coordinate well, decide who is presenting what aspects of the topic, and practice together ahead of time.

· Each group member is permitted one 3x5 inch note card to use for speaking notes. We highly encourage you to prepare and practice so that you do not need your speaking notes during the presentation!

Outline (25 points) :

Your group will submit a formal outline, which is due the date of your presentation. Make sure to follow the Outline Template so you get the formatting correctly. The template is designed to help you organize and prepare the presentation ahead of time!

· Each group member should contribute to the creation of the outline (as well as the presentation itself). Use google docs or another collaborative space to facilitate coordination between all group members.

Grading:

As this is a group presentation, the group will be graded as a whole and every member will receive the same grade under most circumstances. The exception would be a group that has members that do not participate in the planning and preparation, and/or clearly do not perform well during the presentation. Each group member will have the opportunity to provide their instructor with a confidential review of each member of the group. This is designed to protect groups from “loafers.” Instructors have the discretion to assign different grades to specific group members, as appropriate. If you have trouble with your group, discuss the situation with your instructor ASAP.

As with other presentations, you will be assessed on content, organization, and delivery. See the rubric for specific point break downs and criteria.
