MGMT 6088 - GROUP CASE STUDY ASSIGNMENT (Total = 35% of final grade)

Groups:

 You will work in groups of 3-4 students. If you wish to work with specific people, please inform the Professor in

week 3.

 If you do not select your group members, the Professor will assign you to a group.

 Note your group might be subject to change.

Group Case Study Assignment Part I: (worth 10%)

Answer the following questions using Human Resources concepts from the textbook and other sources. You can use

the bold words as headings and/or number each section.

Step 1: Situation Summary This step should provide a brief summary of the case and its key features. Length: ½ - ¾ of a page.

Step 2: Problem Identification The second step in your written analysis is to explicitly identify the major problem in the case in one or two clear and precise sentences. One way to identify a problem is to compare some desired state or objective with the actual situation. In order to define a problem there must be some type of standard for comparison. Possible standards include the organization’s stated objectives or goals, objectives or goals of competing organizations, etc.

Step 3a: Alternative Solutions This step involves developing alternative solutions and evaluating their contributions to resolving the problem(s) identified. The proposed alternatives should be consistent with the problem(s) and cause(s) identified. You should develop at least three possible alternatives.

Appearance of the Paper:

1. All sources should be cited using APA format both within the paper (citations) and the reference page.

2. Your paper should be typed using Arial, font size 11, double-spaced with a complete title page (including:

document title, students’ names, course number and name, date due, Professor’s name) & reference page.

Grading:

1. Please refer to the grading rubric. Your grade will reflect the thoroughness, critical thinking, use of Human

Resources concepts and research demonstrated by your group.

2. Please do not divide the questions between group members. You should make a contribution to each question.

3. You will be assigned a group grade out of 85% for the combined mark of Part I and Part II. There is a variable

15% based on a peer evaluation.

Part II: (worth 20%) Continuation of Part I

Answer the following questions using Human Resources concepts from the textbook and other sources. You can use

the bold words as headings and/or number each section.

Step 3b: Advantages and Disadvantages of the Solutions With each alternative described in Step 3a, list at least three advantages and at least three disadvantages of each

alternative – time constraints, feasibility, cost, contribution to meeting the organization’s objectives & possible negative side effects. These NEED to be supported by research (textbook, other sources).

Step 4: Recommendation (Select the Best Alternative) Indicate the alternative you have chosen to solve the problem. It is important to justify why you chose a particular solution and why it will best resolve the problems(s).

Implementation Steps This is where you develop an action plan to implement the alternative you have chosen. You need to specify

what needs to be done, by whom, when, where & in what order. Identify any difficulties that might be

encountered, even if this is the best solution. Finally, you should indicate follow up procedures to monitor

the implementation of your solution to ensure that the intended actions are taken & that the problem is

corrected.

Step 5: Conclusion The conclusion should neatly and succinctly wrap up and should be 1/4-1/2 page in length
