• You must successfully complete all 5 assignments in the LSSGB Project

to successfully complete this course

• The project is posted in the Module “Green Belt Project Introduction”.

Please download and read the Student Guide and the Project Files.

• The easiest way to access and complete the assignments and complete

them is to go to the Assignments tab. You cannot submit the

assignments earlier than the week they are due, however you CAN look

ahead on the project by reviewing the Student Guide

• I will include some supporting Live Lecture materials (eg hints) each week

• No software beyond Excel is needed..

• The deadlines appear in your Calendar – remember that although these

are not “hard” deadlines you cannot afford to get behind. ke course to

Project Scenario

• Case Study: Reduction in Waiting Time for Patients in a

Doctor’s Offfice

• Dr. Deasly tends to get overbooked because he has many

time constraints

• Lost patient satisfaction has resulted in lost revenue, plus

there is a high rate of staff turnover. Help!

• A project team has been set up to solve these problems,

thereby improving satisfaction and revenue, within three

months

• You will be using the tools of Six Sigma through the whole

DMAIC process.

Assignments must be submitted to the instructor by the end of

the week corresponding to the DMAIC Phase. The exception is

the week 8 or Control phase assignment which needs to be

submitted early in the last week.

• The Assignments will prompt you what to upload for grading.

• Do not post your assignments on the Discussion or Assignments

Board – you must work alone on the project!

• I will generally grade your assignment within 2 days, but when

many assignments are turned in at once this could go longer.

• In your Grades tab, once you attempt an assignment you will either get

a “Complete” or “Incomplete” in your Gradebook.

• If “Complete” then Awesome!

• If “Incomplete: I will send it back to you with some comments for you to correct

and resubmit.

When all of your project assignments are complete and correct, I will sign

off your whole project in the “Green Belt Project Confirmation” field

• Villanova identified the key learning points behind each assignment

and developed the answer keys based on what is typically considered to

be the “best practice” for that topic. You must address them all correctly

in order to complete the assignment.

• Since some of these assignments are open-ended, there is obviously

some room for interpretation. We therefore may disagree from time to

time and you are not expected to accept my judgment without discussion

if you feel strongly otherwise. I truly welcome a friendly debate and any

references you want me to review! But I must make the final decision

based on the Villanova answer key and the best available information to

me. My decision may therefore conflict with yours, but you still need to

be able to address the Villanova requirements in order to finish.

Define Phase Project Assignment

Follow the Assignments tab to open the project assignment for the Define Phase and follow the prompts through the required parts of the assignment, including making your submittals.

You will submit the parts of the assignment The Project is self study – do not post or share your work, please.

The Define Phase assignment is due September 21.

I expect to be able to grade your submittal within a few days, but it may take a week if the volume is high. You will see your assignment checked off in your grades.

you know. Feel free to use your imagination for this. 4. Describe methods for collecting Voice of the Customer. (SEE APPENDIX A)

5. Please create an Affinity Diagram or List based on VOC so you can

identify Customer “NEEDS” for CTQ Tree. (SEE APPENDIX A of the

Student Guide for VOC).

6. Please create a Critical to Quality Tree utilizing the Voice of the

Customer. Identify the Needs, Drivers and Requirements or Metric to

Project charter, which is made up of the Project Overview (Business case)

• Uses nonquantifiable terms • Describes how the project is going to be good for the business, how it

impacts the key business objectives, why the project is worth doing, etc. Problem statement (More Specific)

Asks how big is the problem? How long has this problem existed? What is the gap between where we are now and where we want to be in the future?

Goal Statement SMART- Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-Bound

Scope statement • Asks what is the starting point and what is the ending point? What is in

scope? What is out of scope? • Helps prevent scope creep during the project

Example of an Effective Project Charter

BUSINESS CASE

Shipping errors are causing IMF to risk losing key customers in the ABC product

line, which threatens to the ongoing viability of ABC in our business portfolio.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

In the past six months, IMF company has generated 198 customer complaints

due to shipping errors, which has resulted in reduce customer satisfaction and

delayed payments due to invoicing concerns.

GOAL STATEMENT

By December 23, 20XX, we will have a shipping process in place to reduce

shipping errors identified in our analysis by 90%.

Example of an Effective Project Charter

SCOPE

The process boundaries are incoming material through assembly. No money is

available for buying new equipment or assigning new people to the operation.

Team can implement any decisions based on good data after discussion with

Champion.

Note- the Scope statement can usually be done in a sentence or two but must at

least contain the process boundaries that will be evaluated and improved.
